Great episode! really enjoyed it! I also track my studies but your method is much more detailed. I use Google Sheets and Docs too since they’re accessible from any device. Tracking keeps me motivated. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to the next one😊

Hi Michael, best wishes for 2025! Could you please make a video or podcast on how you use Anki flashcards (and elaborate on what kind of sentences you use)? Thanks in advance. The way you track your study time is interesting! I think it’s helpful in staying motivated en continuing spending a bit of time everyday, that’s such a good habit. Personnally I don’t focus anymore on evaluating progress, I just make sure I continue learning steadily and try to be ‘proud’ on the effort I make. I’m not keeping track on the exact time I spend, but I do make (private) playlists on my KZbin channel with the video’s that I’ve been looking at in a certain week or month. This makes it visual what I’ve done. And I can easily repeat the harder ones, because since I’m over 30, I need a lot of repetition haha. For me focussing on progress is a bit tricky, I can be for months on a kind of plateau or even get the impression that I move backwards. But once in a while I do notice progress, so I just soldier on and trust that it will make a difference eventually. Greetings, Hayet
@LevelUpEnglishPodcast5 күн бұрын
Great suggestion! I did show my Anki process a little bit in this video on my other channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqvSnnqKqL2riLc But it's not in a huge amount of detail. I may consider making another one, but not totally sure where I would post it. That feeling of being proud about what you've accomplished is an important, self-motivating thing! As you said, I think something else I didn't mention here was that learning isn't always linear. We have ups and downs and sometimes feel like we're taking a step back. My tracking doesn't really take that into account. Anyway, happy new year, Hayet! And thanks

Hi Michael, あけましておめでとうございます If you’re thinking of traveling by bicycle in Japan, I highly recommend cycling around 四国 It's about 1000km(10-11days?) You don’t need to stop at every temple or pay any admission fees, (お遍路)-you can simply enjoy traveling around Shikoku at your own pace.

What an amazing tip! Thank you Minami :) I'm going to Shikoku in a couple months so I'll be able to see for myself if it's suitable for me.

Specifically, I'm from Cornwall (South West of the UK) so some words sound a bit local to here (like the A in the word 'Bath' is short), but most people wouldn't guess I'm from Cornwall based on my accent. I would say it sounds a bit more neutral

At its core, Christmas is a religious festival that celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. In Western or historically Christian countries, it is this spiritual significance that keeps the festivities grounded or 'modest' - for the time being anyway. Christmas is non-Christian countries such Thailand will always feel commercialised and vacuous because it lacks the depth, dignity and solemnity that only spiritual or religious traditions embody. These are my views as a Malaysian and I have made similar observations to yours.

When you come to visit Saudi Arabia to watch the next World Cup. You will see the breathtaking beauty of the Kingdom. You will see heritage and modernity mixed between the mountains and desert of AlUlA🐫🌄. You will see the mirror cube that was registered in the Guinness Book of Records. You will see the beauty of Riyadh and the level of development and security that you will not see anywhere else in the world. You will see the luxury of the Red Sea resorts. Believe me, I bet that if you visit the Kingdom, you will fall in love with it. I live now in Vietnam and I am very excited and keen for my next visit to my city, Riyadh🌇🤍. There may be mistakes in my writing, as my English is not perfect yet, but when I mentioned the Kingdom with its desert only, I could not help but explain how Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 is in reality

Hello Michael. Here Rodrigo from Viña del Mar, Chile. I tried to leave a comment in your Spotify but it seems that the option is no longer available. Since 10 years ago I am not a truly happy person anymore. And since around 3 years I am in a depression with highs and lows. Around that time I discovered your podcast and it helped me a lot in my loneliness. Your friendly voice, positivity and life wisdom accompanied me in tough times, but in my worst moments I was not even able to listen to your podcast. Maybe you could invite a therapist to an episode to discuss English terms about mental health. And really really thank you Michael!!! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 Keep in mind that maybe you (unconsciously) accompany many listeners with mental health issues. 🌟

Hi Rodrigo. Thank you so much for leaving a nice comment here! Not sure why Spotify isn't working - maybe an issue with the app itself? It's honestly so heartwarming to hear my podcast helping in some way (even if it's small!) I agree that podcasts can be a great way to hear other voices and opinions, and we can definitely feel connections to the hosts sometimes. I love the idea of talking to a therapist in the future! I'll keep that in mind. All the best ☀
