I also tuned out of Instagram, Mrs Mops. In as much as before I would’ve liked to think I was good at the reminder and differentiation that “It’s just Insta” but overconsumption of it distorted my perception of reality. I saw myself somehow blur the lines between Instagram vs Reality, without even realising. I noticed even in how I would post, I’d find myself questioning that “Are you posting this because you want to be seen that ‘Me too’?” You know? You scroll for a few hours a day you begin to feel some type of way about your life. I’m a young, unmarried woman so my peers are frequenting designer stores, taking constant trips, shooting content from their lover of flowers and “spoils”. It gets overwhelming, *everyone* seems to be better than you. I put my phone down in despair of “And what am I doing with my life?” Oh I had to just put a stop to it all and not even limit my exposure to not just for i.e. One hour of Instagram a day BUT actually cut it all off and *live*. Touch some grass, post what I do feel like sharing to my close family & friends on WhatsApp. I’m now 2 months without Instagram and mentally? I’m never been so liberated. I don’t know what anyone who isn’t in front of me is doing and I think I like this little life.
