Just to say a BIG thanks for this. I went to fit my bars today and initially the two different sized brackets had me stumped, until I watched your video. Very much appreciated. You saved me from a 50% chance of a right screwup! :-)

Make sure to change the IAC muffler as well. That is the sponge inside the throttle body. You see it when you remove the flame arrestor.

Excellent video very well explained without rabbiting on about stuff that is nothing to do with the task in hand well done 👍 Great Tutorial which has given me the confidence to do my 600mile service rather than pay the Dealer £300 and they said it’s not necessary to replace the drive oil ??? When I said according to the book it should be replaced they said well that’s up to you 😫 in other words they don’t do it and your video clearly shows it’s important and needs to be done as the oil was Black 😉

Why not use BMW oil made by shell? For some reason, I thought the BMW oil was specialized for BMW bikes only. Please advise brother.

Thanks for this helpful video, I’ve just got my upper crash bar from a local supplier since i bought the bike used with already installed engine crash bar from SW Motech. I was wondering how to fit the lower part of the upper crash bar, but you have shown exactly what to do and you made it very simple for me.

Missing: - application of thread locker on the cantilever bolt - replacement of crush washer on FD oil fill plug bolt - cleaning and re-application of final drive boot sealant grease on mating surfaces - replacement of crush washer on engine oil drain plug bolt BMW also recommends replacement of the FD oil drain plug O-ring but as this bike is relatively new and if you didn't observe damage to the O-ring, you can clean and re-use. If you're anal enough to grease cardan shaft rear splines at 600 miles, why didn't you pull the shaft and grease the front splines as well? They can seize -- which isn't as much of an issue for riding as it is when it comes time to replace the shaft. There was a stop-sale/safety recall on R1250GS bikes last year that requires dealers conduct a shaft test and FD housing drain-hole/vent install that you can't do at home. If you haven't had this performed, it takes about an hour. If your bike fails they'll replace your shaft. They'd be required to do the test and drain-hole/vent install if it hasn't been done yet and your bike was both in warranty and under 30K miles. Also also, I'm assuming you're in the US and therefore are protected by the Magnusn-Moss Warranty Act. It's on the mfg to prove something you did wrong would void a warranty, so this video -- while informative to your viewers -- isn't required. Harley Davidson was in the news last Oct ('22) over this and lost their claims to void customer warranties over it, specifically in regards to regular maintenance such as this.

Nice video! Shocked to learn SW Motech didn't provide properly detailed instructions for their crash bars--that's a big job and not particularly intuitive either. Makes me feel glad I got the Adventure model with Crash Bars installed! Now that I think of it, I remember having trouble installing SW Motech's ring assembly for on of their tank bags. First issue I had was ordering the correct ring for my bike--their website made that clear as MUD! After returning the wrong one and waiting for the right one, I read the instal instructions and found them a tad confusing as well. Thankfully there is no shortage of KZbin videos that cover that job. Bottom line: SW makes good stuff, but they need to improve on the instructions they provide (A LOT).

I know I'm late to the game on this video, but what a great little tutorial! Thorough yet concise, you covered it all. I just hit 600 miles on my '23 GSA, and like you, I will make a short video to memorialize the service. I don't need BMW balking should I have a warranty claim. The initial 600 mile oil change, final drive oil change/service is now pushing $500.00 at my dealership. I prefer doing my own work and taking the time to make certain it's done right. Just a shame that BMW will not provide for sale their service manuals to their customers. I have to wonder if this is in reaction to the US ruling that BMW & Harley can no longer void warranties if standard service is not conducted by authorized dealerships. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to produce and post this ...cheers!!!

I did mine too. The oil in the rear wheel gearbox was very dirty with a lot of black in it. Engine oil was still like new. I like this bike but the engine and driveline vibrations are beginning to get on my nerves, especially the pulsating vibration at about 3200 rpm when accelerating and handlebars vibration at over 4500 RPM. My single cylinder KLR650 is a lot smoother and less vibrating. A BMW master mechanic said that the vibration is normal. He said I need to try to keep Engine RPM above 4000 RPM when possible. Weird.

I thought the 1250 GS requires the new BMW G3 hypoid oil. G3 costs $51 per half a quart bottle. Very expensive. I wonder what the difference is? I would rather use Amsoil Severe Gear 75W-90 oil in there but don't know if it will cause any issues.
