Question for you: does the 'normal/bright/warm' switch work ONLY on the speaker through or the dry line level? Or both? Thanks!
@iamnotpaulaveryСағат бұрын
It's not just amp or amp settings, although you are very close but you need that strong and very tight low end. He used a particular pickup in the bridge that gave him that powerful sound.
@TIGHTENmetalСағат бұрын
Was it a Dirty Fingers? I agree that there is a thing a LP Custom does here that an ESP just can't do..
@iamnotpaulaveryСағат бұрын
@TIGHTENmetal Yes, it's the "Dirty Fingers" pickup. You can still find them new, but Gibson tweaked them and it's just not the same anymore. I was lucky to get a used one and there's definitely more fat, tight low end. ESPs are awesome guitars. I own half a dozen of them and play and gig with them alot.

Great comparison. This makes sense to me…Marshall 16 ohm is scooped in the vid and sounds great with Marshall amps upper mids while the mesa 8 ohm is great for mesa’s lower mids.

The Mark III red stripe sounds far better to me, more upfront and sort of open, breaths. The IIB+ sounds held back, kinda nasal but still a greta amp.

The new Mark IIC+ reissue can probably get you pretty dang close. That’s if you want a new amp. You can find blue stripe Mark IIIs for sub $3,000 on reverb all day. But from what I read Sykes played the ultra rare 150w Coliseum models. Also Sykes has never really came out and said what he used exactly. He could’ve been using Mark IIC+s. RIP John Sykes.

I‘ve never had iic+ but on my thought, according to my ears, the RI should be tweaked with higher Gain and Presence than OG. Also maybe scooping 750 slider can make them sound more similar. Just my opinion. Nice amp though. I should buy one later.

And the iic+ on this video, is it HRG? Sounds awesome! By the way, what's the closest amp to iic+ you think? Mark iii red, JP2C, Mark iic+ reissue, Mesa preamps?

@TIGHTENmetal29 күн бұрын
@@Relayer6a I first played the amp at a Guitar Center in The Big City while on vacation. The one in the demo I later purchased new from a smaller Mesa dealer in another state and had shipped in. That said, 95% of the gear on my channel I never demoed before buying because I live in a rural area. I have to buy it to try it, and it's almost always purchased used through the usual places. One of the reason I post demos is to pay it forward, and hopefully help people like me that cannot try before they buy.
@Relayer6a28 күн бұрын
@@TIGHTENmetal Fair enough. I was just asking because it sounded like you didn't buy it from where you auditioned it. You apparently didn't do it but a lot of people will go into a single owner business and then find a cheaper online price and not even give the little guy a shot at making the sale. Being in the retail business where I maintain a sales floor, professional staff, and displays I get really bothered by people who do that. They come in get proper advice and demonstrations and then buy it for a few dollars less elsewhere. Often some place they already went to that gave them poor service/advice. And the worst part is they didn't even say, "So and so has it for this price. Can you sell it to me for the same?" Because if it's a legit dealer I will always match price and still give them better service.

Great video, Jeremy! I've noticed that the III was darker than the IIC+ OG. Is it because of the III's nature that it has more low mids and low ends than the IIC+ such that they are more pronounced, or is it because of the cab's position towards the mics? Are the amps set to the same settings or to match the tone? ETA: correction for OG instead of RI.
@TIGHTENmetalАй бұрын
That's just how they were dialed, not really in reality. The III is a little more dry than the II, but still within the World of Marks. The knobs were set the same at first then I made some tweaks for the room, but I was going more for "killer tone" than "make them as close as possible".

I think this must be caliber specific issue, or maybe even a bad lot, as I used 70gr TSX in 5.56, and have never had any issues what so ever. Of course, I have not killed thousands of animals, so statistically maybe not valid, but I get text book 2x expansion out of my 11.5" SBR on deer with them.

This sounds like the reissue had less volume hitting the power amp than the og im sure they would be closer with more adjusting the reissue. It just sounds quiet and has that weak feeling like when either my lead master or master 1 is down. Or the reissue has less 80hz at the same slider position and needs to be higher to match maybe. Also maybe needs more presence to match og.
