TLDW regarding The 16 Minute Time Extension During My Round: - I lost game one against a LZ deck and we were selected for random deck check - Once we hit the 10 minute mark with no decks I knew something was wrong - Around this time I look to the end of the aisle and I could see a group of judges discussing something. I recognized these as some of the more senior judges so I knew something was really wrong. - After ~20 minutes a judge came over and explained that the judges were able to consistently identify Prime Catcher in my opponent's deck and issued a game loss - My opponent was given the opportunity to appeal, but the head judge was there initially so the appeal took 20 seconds at most - The head judge then explained that my opponent needed to resleeve and we would have a 16 minute time extension - I had a watch and knew that this whole process to this point had taken 21 minutes and asked if the extension starts after the resleeve. After being told yes I gave my opponent my extra pack of sleeves since I didn't want to lose even more time - This whole process took almost 30 minutes from our decks being taken and game 3 starting, so we had 14 minutes of round time basically sent to the lost zone - In the third game my opponent was (understandably) very flustered and made a couple of misplays that I don't think would have happened had he not received a penalty and been under a time crunch. For this reason I definitely think the situation hurt the integrity of our match and who knows if I would have still won under normal circumstances If you want the full story and some of my thoughts start this episode of my pod at 7:05: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5esqqOfgLydd6Msi=8H_NCrKJd5I1ZONH&t=430

31:12 Back in the Team Challenge days you were able to report your match results in rk9. I believe you did that in the online qualifiers. So they have the ability to do it, but maybe not in a huge scale?

I had a similar situation in Toronto. My opponent used Grant when I had Toedscruel out so I wanted to make sure it worked like he said it (and it did). No problem there. We got like a 5 minute extension. Then when time was called we decided to play fast to have a winner. He used Fez when I had iron thorns in the active and saw the top card. I stopped him before he saw anymore to call a judge. And he kept appealing the call of two prize penalty. So now I know why we didn't get extension. Because it was over 16 minutes. I would have won too. That tie prevented me from getting day 2 because I went 5-1-3.

I guessed Grumpig immediately because of the pearls, you think of the Spoink line. Did not play the game except for a few theme decks back in the XY era, so no idea about the set.

If you want quicker judge calls tournaments will have to be smaller and judge qualifications will need to be raised. I had one judge give my 10 yr old son a warning for using a notepad to write down prize cards (in Baltimore) and another that DQ’d him for accidentally dropping a card that he placed on the bottom of his deck that he was going to get with Arven after he used nest ball. I also had a judge tell me judgements are applied based on what the players record is (less harsh for players with losing records for the same infraction). It’s anecdotal but what I have seen so far this season.

I got the grumpig right after chip read the flavor text . But the guess was set in stone once azul used the first life line . If i remember correctly in the anime grumpig has been showed to be dancing around but not sure about controlling things or people around .

I knew it was Grumpig as soon as I heard the part about the black pearls. Grumpig's black pearls have always stuck in my memory, ever since I learned the Pokemon existed, so I found the "Guess that flavor text" quite trivial.

1:27:56 I got Grumpig immediately, I really don't remember when or where I heard/read that the black balls on it and spoink are pearls (maybe xy anima?) but I guess that in my head pokemon+psychic+pearls=ugly forgettable pig... The funny thing is that I actually own this card in my collection 🤭 Never read the flavor text on it though

I do think they're trying to speed up the appeals process. At Toronto in round 2 at the table next to me there was a player who accidentally left two cards on the table at their round 1, someone (I think their R1 opponent) brought the two cards to the judges, and they unfortunately got to the player after they had already set up for game 2 and started their first turn. That player got a game loss and appealed, and they had to explain to them a couple of times that since the game had started with 58 cards it's a game loss, but a head judge was already there ready to handle the appeal when it came. Even with the back and forth and the deck count and everything I think they only took 7 or 8 minutes, and that feels like outside of resleeving one of the longer judge calls you'll see. I was super neurotic after that, counted my cards after every game and warning my opponents to do the same. I do think there's a hit to competitive integrity of course, but the limit is probably good for the pace of the tournament. Toronto was my first regional and I was really struck by just how much sitting around there was in between rounds, even when my own matches had gone to time and completed it felt like forever. My friend was playing VGC and was done with his eighth round before our seventh round even started, and we had nine rounds to play. He watched my whole seventh round, which went to time, then left after it was over to take a nap while I waited for another half hour plus for the eighth round to start, then I played round 8 and dropped to go get dinner. Just a super long day, so I can see why they want to keep things moving along

25:00 I honestly think promos wouldn’t be much encouragement for players. If you really wanted them, you could likely just buy them for the same price as playing in 1 league cup. Also, compared to store prizing they’d be almost inconsequential.

Would yall ever consider doing like an FAQ each episode that you both answer? For example, something like “what is your favorite deck of all time” or “what in your opinion is the most broken card of all time”. Do this at some point during each episode by sourcing a question from the previous week’s comment section. Then say remember to submit your FAQ for a chance to be next weeks question! It would also raise comment section activity too as a bonus

They should just give players a fix numbers of appeals like they do in the MLB were you get a fix amount of challenge calls you get in a game, that way we don’t waste unnecessary time in trivial judge calls, people out here escalating the judge call to head judge for no reason
