Nissan built these things to last, they were trying to prove a point about EVs so they daren't build a crappy car. Chademo charging is a drag but we mostly charge at home. I'll probably keep ours (30kw/hr) until it can't do the shopping run any more (probably 15 years away) and buy a Kia E-Niro for long runs.

I went to my wifi settings - I thought that meant my home wifi settings - so of course that didn't work. I sent back the Vlink one, then tried the Carista one recommended by LeafSpy and you have to pay £10 a month for a subscription so that's going back today, and I've ordered the LeLink one. Third time lucky I hope!

Thank you Ryan. I've had my 2019 40 Tekna nearly four years and want it to last (it has to!) so I've bought the OBD2 and LeafSpy. Hopefully I'll understand the readings. I expect I'll be coming back to watch this again. I would like to know what the cable is that I need in order to put the cover back on, or should I just plug the OBD2 in every so often?

If his GIDD were 49 and that represented 17.4% does that mean that is total GIDS are 281? And didn’t he say that was the amount of GIDS when the car was new? So doesn’t that mean the battery is really good?

Considering this car as a city runabout. Please can someone let me know if it can be charged at home using a three pin plug? I know it is likely to take 20hours or more to charge, complete ok with that.

If you're wearing out the outsides of the tyres you have to much toe-in. Get the car tracked at a garage and you'll see a huge improvement.

I have a question. I'm going to soon be losing my work van that I use to get to and from work and I want something reliable £0 tax cheap to run and can do 8 miles a day for 42 weeks of the year. Literally just a set of wheels that keeps me dry and means I don't have to get the bus. I was thinking about a Fiat 500 Twin-air, but considering a Leaf. To be honest I wouldn't be seen dead in one but like I said it's just got to get me the 8 miles to and from work. But, from what I've seen people say you can tell the state of the battery by the 12 bars etc. My question finally is. Can it be battery "clocked?" Can car dealers put bars back on via that OBD2 port to make the car look fresher than it actually is? Would Leaf Spy know if something had been messed about with? You might have guessed, I don't trust car dealers.

I’m thinking about getting one of these cars just do the fact that we don’t pay for electricity so plugging it in 110 overnight and just doing local driving will save me a ton of money.

we have a 2020 leaf 40kw tekna. we also have 2 ice cars. the leaf is an incredible car to own. in 4 years it's cost us one wiper blade. no servicing needed. the mot is the service. cheaper than taking the bus. if you never drive more than 100 miles and have a home charger then just go buy one. i've been driving 45 years and over 4 million miles. takes a lot to impress me. the leaf is one fantastic car in everyway. so nice to drive aswell.

cool to hear this! we're looking to purchase a used one, now need a second car that will see maybe 5000 miles per year and this seems like a perfect fit for trips to work/appointments/saturday morning errands. how the dealer service experience been for you? see some mixed reviews on this topic, but always hard to find a good dealer that's not trying to gouge you constantly. thanks!

I drive a works Leaf through work not for my own use very often and as they say they are like marmite, I do short journeys so I think a leaf would me ideal for me , I've been informed that when purchased from new some buyers bought the battery outright from nissan , some rented the battery , if I'm purchasing one how will I know if the battery has been bought or rented ? Thanks very much great review.

Basically as a *used* car, it's a 100-mile range EV, which is fine for most journeys in the UK. If you have a daily round-trip commute of more than 90 miles, look elsewhere because it might not do it in winter (or in wet conditions).

You can now pick up a 2018 LEAF Tekna with adaptive cruise, heated everything, LED headlights, 360 cameras, and really good driver assist for less than £9k. EVs are starting to become great value.

Hello and thank you for this. Currently I am looking to buy a 2012 Leaf and intend using your guidance. I don't quite understand where the GID's fit could you kindly help: 280 GID's when your/ a Leaf is new. Yours in this video has 17.1% GID's. Am I correct calculating 17.1% of 280 GIDS = 47.88 GID's is all that is left please? 🤔

Only just watched this. Have to say you offered sound advice on focusing on the version you really need. In my ICE I do approx 60 miles per week so a move to EV is for me, a good option. I occasionally do more but, rarely. So, the 24kwh version is probably the best option for me. Made me think a bit so thanks.

Interesting we have a 62kwh leaf and although I haven't been monitoring the battery temperature that much I've never seen it reach half way when I have, or even change perceptibly with driving (b mode, no e-pedal, ecomode on). Aside - recently started using e-pedal and love it. So in early October made my longest journey from Birmingham to Scotland. 100% charged night before departure. Used drive settings above. Temperature 18C till Scotland then it cooled down to about 12. Drove up M6 and M74 at 50-70 (traffic jam at Lancaster cost me 30minutes of crawling) with lots of hills at Shap and Southern Scotland. Charged over my lunch at 50Kw charger south of Preston to just over 80% (30 minutes ish). When I got to Abingdon I was at 24%. Could have made it home (just), but thought I might need the car the next day and wanted to try out the ultra-rapid charger (120Kw). Got my fastest charge ever. Went from 24 to 85% in just over 30 minutes (max rate 100Kw of course) but was still charging at 36Kw when I disconnected. This suggests to me this is not a problem in more recent Leafs. PS would have made me it home with 9% charge and the journey even if had paid for the electricity at my mum's was a quarter of what it would have cost me in my old civic with non motorway prices for petrol.

Just bought a used leaf 11/2012 made in Japan with 11/12 bars. Check with leaf spy shows 81.4%SOH. 24,000km on the clock. 8 fast charge in total since 2013 that it was registered. I was amazed on how the car was looked after. Complete service history with Nissan Authourised workshop . Looking through repairs/service papers, only fluids were top up ,wipers replaced twice and break pads changed once. Car look almost brand new. I paid 90,000 Swedish kronor , approximately 7,000£ with no regrets for such a car. Despite all the talks about the first zeo leaf batteries, i think its all comes down to how the car was used and maintained and these applies to even ICE cars as well. If you take care of your car they will pass your expectations.kudos to Nissan for the leaf's . Haven't said that , i knew what i was buying into,i dont expect to reach 200km on a full charge on this car ,my daily commute to work is 66km round trip and this car will do this without any issues even in winnter months here in Sweden. I have an ICE car which we hope to use for family long trips but after just one month with the leaf , i am already thinking of getting rid of the Ice car or trading both for a bigger battery EV so we can stick to one family car. If you haven't tried an EV ,its would be very difficult to break the myth about battery degradation and all the bullshit out there about EV transition. Go out there and maybe rent one for a week or two to get your own perspective on EV's . Thanks to everyone on social media platforms that are sharing real life experience with EV's because the decision to buy the Leaf was inspired by you all ❤
