Great review Ryan. The fly test is a new one! It’s a similar story with the ID3. I test drove one before the last lockdown and it felt just like a VW. Nothing outrageous, but just a good car. A few weeks back my parents phoned to say they were thinking about buying one. They bought without test driving. I just know they will appreciate that car and the range and performance will be something new for them. And TBH whilst there are some interior question marks, the lower down the range you go the better value it feels. Certainly the ID3 Pro Performance Life model was available at one point for £26k, which is still a lot of money, but in the grand scheme of things felt like good value. VW have moved their prices up a little on the lower models, probably because there’s a bigger jump because of the changes in the EV grant.

It's a lovely car, hopefully better versions of it are coming? The door tops (as far as I know) are cheap plastic and so are some other areas that you would touch quite often. That cheap plastic on the outside....... Hopefully, as with the Golf etc, VW or an OEM, will release bumper/fender material in metal or at least body coloured plastics! And no frunk/froot......... Imagine the long trip with your family and their luggage and you suddenly need a charge, if you can't find a tethered connector you're digging around in the back! As Ryan says, it does everything well! But I was hoping for more from the ID range. I was wanting it to be almost perfect............ Like the Golf!

@@nickhickson8738 I get what you're saying. I'm still driving my Mk5. I tried a Mk7 when it came out, which I mostly loved, but it didn't feel as good as driving the older Mk5 - being over 6ft I also didn't like the less headroom! Setting my sights on a GTE, but VW really pee'd me off with the emissions scandal! Also don't like the way everything comes as an option nowadays - although it was the same with the Mk5, there's so many more of them these days!

5:28 There's no front storage under the hood because the added weight ahead of the front axle will make the vehicle a nose-heavy FWD vs tail-happy RWD handling vehicle. No frunk means shorter F&R overhangs. 17:20 The "Coasting" or "Creep" mode applies Newton's 1st law to the fullest. It's easier and less energy to accelerate a vehicle while still in motion than from rest. You forgot to mention the small turning radius of the ID.4 vs other EVs

I like many things about it very, very much indeed: the ID Light is just ingenious, for example. Saw a grey one recently and all the grey plastic, just blended in. So if the buyer doesn’t want to see the cheap looking plastic trims, they should go with dark grey. Think the 4 is better looking than the 3. But that two-tone brown interior… what were they thinking? Perhaps they were after a car nobody would want to nick.

I have noticed something, which is more interesting than it seems at first...2:00 the taillights are not the same as in the rest of Europe!! This is how i know them from Germany : kzbin.info/www/bejne/oWrMdHWQbs2krbs They have this quite clever and good looking design, this version look a bit more boring in comparison. But why is it interesting ? all of Europe except GB and Ireland have the other taillights...and the taillights in the video are the same as in the US!! Also Europe has a real light bar between the headlights, the US has not( because of US regulations), The British Isles also have the US-fake light-bar. So either for the sake of cost-cutting, complying with regulations or both you get different taillights depending if you live in an English speaking country or not. The primary reason for it, i suspect is that, VW wants to hide the fact that they have different taillights and keep the buyers in the US ignorant abuot the fact that they got worse looking ones, so Americans watching British Car You tubes could jeopardize their plan. One Language- One Car Design. The following is just my theory, but true would be really interesting.... Right now the ID.4 is only produced in Chemnitz and Dresden, both Germany and in two factories in China (only for the Chinese market). But this changes quite soon, besides more factories in Germany, which is not that interesting from 2022 onward the ID.4 will also be produced in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA. So that would make the British and Irish markets the only ones in Europe with the other taillight design....which could mean that the cars sold there will be made in USA? As far as i know, the production cost in the factory in Tennessee are not that high, likely lower than in Germany. So even it makes zero sense from a geographical perspective,maybe it makes sense from an economic one. A strengthening of US-GB economic relations are the most likely result of Brexit, so maybe VW is hoping on low British import tariffs for US-made cars ?? (Ireland is less significant as a market...so the tariffs there are not that interesting). This is just speculation, the ID.4s could still be coming out of Germany and keeping 2 different sets of taillights in stock does complicate the production that much and is a negligible cost increase. Thank you for listening to my TED.talk

Thank-you for the video, Ryan, and it's great to hear from you again. With apologies, however, I have to disagree with you on a few important points: First off, it's yet _another_ SUV, in a sea of the things. What's wrong with an estate or even a saloon? Then there are the looks; it's _hideously_ ugly, and seems to have been thrown together by a teenager who has been let loose on a CAD suite for the first time. It has bits tacked on everywhere, and the front view manages to be somehow much worse than the fat rear end. Next, there's that clashing dirty brown, all over the interior, which is clashing with the rather smart grey upholstery. Frankly, it looks as if a baby has had an accident with chocolate (or worse) all over it. Maybe grandma would like the beige/tan highlights, but my wife saw it and vocalised my thoughts: 'Yeuk!'. In addition, for what is a relatively expensive car, it has far too many instances of VW trying to distract our eyes away from the cheap and nasty compromises. In fact, you alluded to that with your observations of the front and rear ends. But it continues into the cabin. And the glove box is almost as bad as the one in a RHD Zöe. Sure, it has some fine redeeming features, including the comfortable seating - especially in the back - and the feeling of spaciousness, large boot, the quiet ride, good visibility, etc. but, to make use of your analogy, I would be embarrassed to be seen with a girlfriend with looks and colour sense such as hers. I certainly wouldn't want to introduce her to my parents! Especially if her initials were VW. I also get the distinct impression that you're trying very hard to talk up the car throughout the review, maybe to please your sponsor, not least because you ran out of positive things to say about the vehicle. On a positive note, you're quite correct about the white attracting a menagerie of insects. It might be something to do with it reflecting Ultra Violet much more than the darker coloured vehicles. White also highlights dirt, dings and blemishes very effectively.

The new Koreans are not actually in the same price range and have quite a different audience, they are more car lover's cars instead of the no-nonsense practical family SUV. I don't know what did you have against MG ZS EV as this 95% an MG... SPECIALLY since MG main manufacture in china is manufacturing 40% of VW parts... Everything you said about quality build is same but you pay less for the badge compare to MG. Also you get hell of a lot more features if you get the MG.battery and range is better on id4 but same 0-60mls in 8s . Same size cabin and room Same design ( in terms of cheap and good quality in outside and inside) People basically paying for badge. Whoever wants to buy this and not looking for a badge i suggest to have test drive with MG Ev open minded and experience and then pay their hard earned cash to what they really think is better for them
@chillmeister3 жыл бұрын
I thought this was a review of the ID.4? I'd agree about open mind, but it's a stretch to say this is 95% an MG. If we're splitting hairs it's a stretch to say that MG these days is 95% an MG. That's a viewpoint coming from someone who at one point simultaneously owned an MG Midget, MGB GT, and MGF. However, we know how fast things can change. Look at how far Kia have come since I had a 2005 Carens as a company car. Once people start to see how new MG's hold up over time then I think opinions will change.
@miladshahrestani13493 жыл бұрын
Mostly agreed... But he in MG review said and complained a lot about plasticity bits in MG and those exactly same place here on id4 .. but in car over £40Grand this was not an issue for him but for £25Grand car these were issue... 95% i meant the design choice ..like were to use cheap plastic and were to use better material.. which more or less same as what MG ZS EV choosen. Anyway i never believed we should compare a £25G car with over £40G car.. but MG ZS EV is mostley comparable with cars below £40G... and it is more forgivable if they cut from some material as it is way cheaper. We should not forget for the price of 1 id4 we can almost buy 2 MG ZS EV . That's what make it a good car compare to much expensive car... for the most part you pay for the badge rather than actual quality... I have driven id3 for few weeks and alreafy own MG ZS EV . 90% quality are same , and same choice of material inside and outside but much much more features in MG ZS EV... IF ID4 comes with same features as MG ZS EV EXCLUSIVE version it will be over £50G i believe
