I gave done two cheaper GTs and wound up with one as after tear down the Avalanche alloy frame was cracked. It did give up a better wheel set. It was for a family member for long term use so I went with a 1x Microshift Acolyte so it left the realm of bargain resto-mod.

I’d love to see Sam work on it… But I’d say it might not follow in the spirit of the cheap bike since I find the build off is more to inspire people to do similar builds. And most people unfortunately don’t have such a talented friend. Let alone a bike builder around them.

This is exactly what I felt the answer should be. Maybe once the challenge is over we can mess around with it 🤷🏻‍♂️

Just read the build-off rules. I've been disqualified as I've used two Ali Express bolts and a pair of handlebar grips from Amazon. 😭

I basically only doing cheap bikes. Have build nearly 60 of them and sold them mostly. Some of the crazy good deals I kept. My next build atm is restoring a GT Karakoram that I bought for 25 euro. Pretty good condition just ridden a lot and everything is worn out and is being replaced from my hundreds of bikes I stripped.

Amazing video! Nice of you to include it all, even what didn't work. We only learn from mistakes, and it's best to learn from others mistakes. 😅🤙 Look forward for the build up.

If you make the length of the stem and the seatpost smaller... won't you end up with a children's bike?🤷🏼‍♂️. Bbbuuuttt....I like it! ☝🏼

Not a ton of miles on them, but I've been impressed by Panaracer Pasela Protites which I think come in 26" and they have supreme vintage mojo. My wife also likes her Gravelking SS tires.

Man, if manufacturers keep sending this influencer cool products to demo, I’m going to have to heavily consider these products and likely purchase them directly from those manufacturers resulting in fantastic ROI for the companies working with this influencer.

Thanks to you Russ I now am equipped with uno shifter, Growtac equal brakes, Honjo fenders and MKS Pretzels. It’s so nice to have a bike with such high quality components that feels like it will last forever and friction shifting is such a nice return to the bikes I had in the 70’s and 80’s. Great video as always especially for us as we live in Brittany 6 months of the year. The cycling there is really amazing on quiet smooth roads/gravel.

9:55 - I'm going to have to disagree with you here, that it's more niche than usual for a Brompton. Here's why: 1) No more anxiety about skinny, hard, 16" wheels. Chunky tires + industry standard diameter = better ride. (We're not all blessed with smooth streets like you have there!) 2) Bigger gear range; better climber. Since the bike is never going to be particularly fast, it may as well climb like a billy goat! 3) A lot of us stateside who don't live in big cities don't need the really compact fold, but want a Brompton anyway. Here, we give up the super-small fold that we didn't need to begin with for a more comfortable ride and more terrain capability. In fact, they should have an option for street tires; an urban warrior model. Keep the big gear range and keep the killer fenders. I'm looking at one of these now for the 3) reason.

The z lock would be great for locking up wheels too. I always leave my bike with the fear that I will find locked in it's place but with the wheels gone.

Seine bars (named after the river that runs through Paris; pronounced “sane.) are tied with Ritchey Koyote bars as my favorite not-drop bars. Fun fact: they’re exactly the same dimensions as the VO Crazy Bars, but without the extensions. HOWEVER, I like to slide some good angled Profile Designs bar-ends to the center part of the Seine bars, basically creating customized Crazy Bars. I call them In-Seine bars 😉.

Congrats...that is sweet build. I have a Neutrino now for about 4 years and I use as a commuter and touring bike...She has seen duty across Iowa, Arkansas, North and South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and recently Alaska. Great little travelers for small tours but rides as well as my Surly Troll that I love with all my heart. Cheers and wishing many miles of happiness and adventure

Have a look at 12:29 in the video timeline. There’s a little bit of metal in the drop out. No idea why it’s there but it’s from the factory and I’ve seen it on others of the same age.

@@2NDLIFEBIKES That's weird! It looks like a hole? Are you supposed to take the skewer out of the hub and put the hub all the way back and then skewer it? I'd try it. It looks like a safety feature. There is no way that skewer has enough surface area to grab on to.

The axle can’t slide any further back. The bit of metal stops it. It’s a really good pint though. I’ve never thought much of it. I’ll dig it out and do a instagram post. See if the greater community have any ideas. Thanks for pointing it out 🙌🏼

@@2NDLIFEBIKES I get it that it can't SLIDE over it, but if you spread the rear a tiny bit, the hub should fit right in there. Most people when changing a rear tire flip the bike over, allowing you to quickly spread the rear chain stay's to get it in the holes. Trying to spread the stay's on a stand while trying to mount the wheel in the holes would be difficult. Upside down it's easy.
@2NDLIFEBIKES
@2NDLIFEBIKES 4 күн бұрын
Just ground this in a forum. “By shortening the slot, the axle location and resulting chain gap is fixed.The latter is critical for optimal indexed shifting. Basically, it is a mistakeproofing tool to prevent owners from inadverently messing up one indexed shifting parameter. It's why vertical dropouts became prevalent during the same period.” I’m guessing they’re using a mould from a dropout that was pre hanging hanger mount. They just doctored the mould instead of producing new. But like I said I’m still interested to find more information. I don’t believe Specialized would have designed it to have to be spread to fit a wheel in.

Mr. Craig is a top Influencer, I have bought many stickers from 2nd Life Bikes, and if I didn't already have too many bikes, including a Mini-Velo, I would indeed be influenced to buy either a Velo Orange Neutrino, or a kyoot Itty Bitty, if not both.
