Stayer ATB Bike Build - Posh Rat Bike Parts Bin Build - AGAIN

Today we build a parts bin bike with a twist. I get to use the parts bin of a frame builder who has built many show bikes!!
The stAyTB project is the first of our mid life crisis town bike series and consists of a frame, fork, bullmoose bars, day rack, wheels, headbadge and other bits and bobs all beautifully and somewhat singularly fillet brazed and fashioned in Leytonstone, East London. Very much in reverence and homage to the best of 80’s offroad, All Terrain, ‘mountainbike’ style that gets us here at Stayer so stoked about handmade bikes and making stuff to ride for fun and to feel good.
Rare as hens teeth, filet of fish; a nice bike indeed and more than ample steed for the supermarket shred and the practicalities of being a cross country leg-end confined to the mortal realm of human cycling and just casually shredding the shiz out of nipping down the shops.

I love the raw finish on the frame. I always use alt bars on my bikes, but I never liked the look of the forward sweep before the backsweep on some bars. Have you considered any other swept back bars that could potentially give a cleaner look? Perhaps a Soma dream riser, or Tumbleweed Persuader Bar (they do a raw finish version)?

Love that stayer ! Builds are never done ! I want free rolling tyers after winter . I might try Vittoria Mezcal . Also love my DMR V8s but my Shimano GR500s spin whay easier ! But need greasing like every 3 weeks ! And there silver ! Not black It never ends 😂

Just so you're aware, with those TRP brakes and a standard 160 adapter like that, you dont want any washers or spacers between the caliper and the adapter. You can verifdy that you have full pad coverage by looking at the pads from the top of the caliper and seeing that the rotor comes all the way up to the edge of the pad.

Great Bike! I have the same dilemma ion one of my bikes that is grey metallic and I wanted to add green to my orange accents. I personally thought it was too “peas and carrots”. So I stuck with orange. Dave Noakes is sponsored by Stayer too and had Stayer rims as well. I recommend Pirelli Gravel M in 50mm my all time favourite all rounder or the Shwalbe G-One I think they come in a 2.25 width.. I know tubeless is a pain in the ass, but I swear by it.

Here's my unsolicited hot take..ride your existing tires on tarmac and within 6 months-year you'll end up with the perfect tires. Center tread will be worn down, cornering knobs largely intact and it will cost nothing more than just a few more hours in the saddle

Hey for me it were the kyote bars that gave me wristpain. They’re just a bit off in my opinion, also heard this complaint more often.

One of the only good things supposedly about friction shifting is the ability to shift multiple gears rapidly , could it be the spring in the cable tensioner ?

I’ve had the same problem with that BB screw. Took a while to figure out why it wouldn’t go in. At first I thought it had bought the wrong bb.

Yeah, That wrist pain is definitely gonna be cause of that saddle tilt, Level or 1-2 degrees would definitely help. 🫡
