China Trade Surpluses of 1.7 trillions stem from trading with over 150 countries , perhaps, and not solely surplus from SA. SA may represents minor figures if others are excluded. If without surplus , could China invest for the betterments of SA. I think the important thing to consider is that China buys raw materials from Africa, these materials hold a lot of value in terms of the economic value of refinement and manufacturing that occurs in China that isn't priced into the import, whereas what Africa imports from China is finished consumer products that have less value in terms of fueling industrial activity and economic growth.

Consider a wild alternative world where the ores are processed in South Africa instead of just transshipped. Would these processed outputs then be considered "true" exports of South Africa?
