I’m curious to know your thoughts on people who like yourself, have their own business and feel as a neurodivergent person that it is part of their identity, how would you sate the two so that somebody is not deviating from invisible rules that you seem to have set out for them? Genuinely curious because I didn’t mean to make you upset when I felt that what I do was relevant to something that you were saying. I don’t know if you’d be willing to get on camera to discuss it with me

My audhd has affected my relationships by not being understood, being accused of being rude. Being misinterpreted to what we say. People and family didn't want me around. To them I am frustrating to be around. I always felt like Noone gave me the option to understand me. It ruined a lot of my relationships especially with family with my mom & dad which are both gone now so I can't fix our relationship.
@ADHDruids4 ай бұрын
That can be tough, and I have experienced the same thing in the past. It's because we communicate in a different way than people who are not AuDHD. It also takes a willingness to understand us and sometimes people just aren't willing. There are people out there that will though and I hope you can find people that do.

It was a kind of masking. Trying to do what you thought society expected. I had a similar experience growing up without guidance and trying to fit in with people I didn't fit in with.
@ADHDruids6 ай бұрын
It very much was part of masking mixed with a lot of different things too that made it difficult to process. Once I really started to be introspective I was able to grow and be healthier. A lot of that was unmasking and facing my own insecurities.

I really enjoyed this conversation and while it did deviate from the base idea of overall identity, it did explore some important topics. This was a pretty vulnerable conversation for me because I am openly talking about a lot of the past behaviors I had to deconstruct and address. It hasn't been an easy journey and I had to really look inward to make changes and be accountable for who I used to be.

I started putting mail directly in the recycle bin from the mailbox. Unless I can tell it's a check or a document I need to prepare my tax return. Ironically, right before I saw this video, I commented on a video that I went two years with untreated sleep apnea because the doctor who ordered the sleep study told me I didn't have sleep apnea...until I found the report from the sleep lab, in the bottom of a stack of mail I was too tired to open, thanks to waking up 30 times per hour and not breathing while I'm asleep.

This is very true. It is sometimes difficult to find the happy medium between self care and self coddling ... having said that, I don't know how many times I've also lacked self care to prevent self coddling. It's hard to get in a good place but you've alao gotta surround yourself around the right people

I am terrified of giving criticism since I feel like a dick doing it, but I would like to be criticised if I was being a jerk. Same thing with coworkers. Its arguable that our political landcape is the way it is becuase people can't give constructive criticism, and instead do mudslinging.
@ADHDruids7 ай бұрын
I think we as a society need to be better about being accountable for ourselves, and as we develop that skill, it is easier for us to receive criticism.

I totally understand this. I asked my GP about an ADHD assessment and he was so passive aggressive about it and even did the test as well to prove it wasn't a big deal. Luckily I've recently gone back and asked about an autism assessment and I saw a different GP and he was amazing and totally understood where I was coming from. It's just total luck about who you speak to. I've found the younger doctors to be a bit more understanding because neuro diversity doesn't exist for the boomer generation 😂

Okay with this description I realise that I probably am pda. I have had many accounts where I have been stressed out with how many instructions someone has given me and decided “you know what, I’m in control. I’m just gonna go on a walk”. It’s not that I can’t complete the task or I don’t want to complete the task, I just get this weird frustration when someone tries to order me, especially when they give me orders one after another rather than all at once (likely since it takes away from my knowledge of my schedule which is a part of my autonomy.)
