Dude, a piece of 1" x 4" x 8' pine is like $5. Rip it in half and nail it to the wall. The best part is it already looks like wood because...wait for it ...its wood 🤔

So, make a ruana cloak and a water proof canvas mantel cloak, and use the quick-release double overhand knot, with bunny ears, to tie it, and add (dun dun dun...) a shoulder/neck patch on the inside, to add arm straps that ride on my arm/shoulders: for added mantle cloak stability. Got it! Why don't you wear wennigas? The arm ones do come in handy but they untie more readily than leg ones

Been using Sno-seal for over 25 years. There's not been a better answer that I've seen. My brand new Jim Green's arrive tomorrow and upon being broken in, will get the same as the rest of my boots. That 7 oz jar has lasted basically forever as it doesn't require constant attention. Once every couple years, another heat and smear and good to go.

So many people take historical accuracy to mean matching European conditions prior to the Renaissance. Cutting out potatoes and tomatoes from a medieval fantasy world for the sole reason that they weren't introduced to real-world Europe until the Columbian Exchange in the 16th and 17th centuries makes no sense at all, and smacks greatly of Eurocentrism. More generally, I'm so tired of people taking things that signal specific cultures and time periods in OUR world and making inferences based on what OUR world looked like and functioned in those cultures and time periods, without ever actually tying those inferences directly to the elements they started with. The existence of top-hats does not in any way imply global empires focused on the extraction of wealth from foreign lands to the enrichment of the imperial core. Top-hats were contemporaneous in our world with global empires like the British, French, and Spanish, but they weren't intrinsically linked.

I’m sure you already know this, but SCA would allow you to role play a character and your interest in medieval history would make this a good option. Maybe, join the SCA, and go to your Kingdom and local barony events.

I like how you said that it’s a very Specific and Niche tool. I’d say at its time it’s a very useful, and important tool for a Navigator to have. An I’d say that it’s an important part of the tools of his trade. There’s a big reason why both the Ships Navigator, and his apprentice would get paid by a larger percentage. It’s all depending upon what type of ship they’re working on will play a huge role in determining his Day Rate amount or the percentage he’s paid. If he’s a Navigator on a nations warship, or on a Merchant ship, he’ll get the day rate. An if it’s a ship with a letter of Marque as a Privateer, Pirate ship, or if he’s on a ship of Trade and Discovery ship he’ll be paid a higher percentage amount of captured ships and its Cargo. My Stepdad was a Captain offshore who’s Coast Guard/Merchant Marine License was an Unlimited Master which allowed him to be a Master/Captain on a ship of every size all the way from a rowboat to an Aircraft Carrier. Not that a non military member would be entrusted with a naval warship, but just to just give an idea of what he could do. For him to be able to have that license he had both 6 Part Written Test and Practical Test too. He had to prove that he had the knowledge to do it, and he also needed to pass with either a 90% or a 95% or higher score. I don’t remember the exact amount. He had too be able to tie 100 different Knots, also he had to be able to navigate by just the stars at night time, and had too navigate using a Sextant for both day and night time navigation. The Sextant is the Navigation tool that has been used for years ever since the late 1600’s. Just for Shitś & Gigglės after we had watched a Documentary about the Sunstone & paired with the wooden sun Compass being able to find the Sun even on extremely cloudy day’s in the North Sea. On a trip from Little Creek Amphibious Base to Bergen, Norway he used a Sun Compass, & Sunstone that he had bought online from a company in Iceland. He would check the Sun compass, and Sunstone aka Icelandic Spar anywhere from 2-6 times a day to test it against the ship’s onboard Navigation System. He found it to be incredibly accurate especially for its first time in use so long ago. I’m really sorry everyone for how long my comment was. My ADHD meds have worn off and has me rambling on and on. I thought that anyone who is interested in history and or the Age of Sail might find this interesting

Nice video. For picking out the recesses in the chape, and creating shadows, don’t use black paint, you need to use what is called a “wash”. Army Painter makes some great washes.

Whether it is making bread from scratch or making / improving armour, you have encouraged me to leave my trepidation behind and give these things a go too. So, thank you. Hi! little bit of conjecture on the strap holes: people used to make holes with an awl (poke a pointy thing through the leather and the leather stretches). However, that can only go up to a certain size, after that the leather tears and will continue to tear if even the slightest bit of force is applied to it. So for bigger holes, people would take two chisels (one for the with, one for the height) to cut rectangular holes, which could even accomodate wider straps (Score!). And as the years went by, technology progressed, and people would be able to curve blades into a circle shape (a.k.a. a hole punch) thus allowing for making larger round holes without running the risk of tearing

A knee hight stool with a pillow for your knee will allow you to stand without putting as much strain on the ankle or foot. It is kinda like using a knee scooter but less mobile 😊 I spent a couple months with a badly broken ankle that had to be fixed surgically. The knee scooter allowed me to continue working as an overnight stocker in retail & do most of my normal activities. I think the padded stool would be totally medieval appropriate!

Not to be rude, but I believe that the reason many people create multiple characters is not for an overabundance of creativity, but actually a lack of creativity and vision. We can all create a million archetypal characters and give them shallow backgrounds, but to really invest in a single character, flesh them out and make them real is a whole other level of creative genius.

You are wasting time and materials. EVA foam is not needed, just cut 2" strips of you're pink foam, miter one edge and join at 90 degrees, then to the same detail steps. also mod dodge is just PVA glue that you are over paying for and command strips are just double sided carpet tape. I've worked 30 years in FX. EVA is great for costumes but kinda overkill for set dressing

Hi! Love this vid, it's really an issue that people tend to accept suffering for the sake of looking cool. I myself have several years of larping as a vampire under my belt, so here are a few more tips about managing heat: - design your outfit in a way that allows for layers to come off, and still look convincing. It adds to the realism of your character AND you will not lose awesomeness for the sake of temperature - yes, cold drinks cool you down. However, your body turns into a literal heatsink if you drink hot beverages (preferably tea). Drinking a hot beverage will widen your veins, allowing improved bloodflow (and thus heatflow) from your core to your skin. I learned this from my martial arts teacher, and i have felt the effects. If you drink cold beverages, your core cools down from the drink temperature, but the veins close up. - Fibre content is KEY. Yes, linens are the best to wear close to the skin. Also, avoid synthetics. As vampires we were often decked out in all black. However that was much less of a problem if the wool was all natural than when there was even only a percentage of polyester added to the fibre. - Want to wear a hat for shade, but still want keep it cool? STRAW HATS. Their light colours keep them from warming up, and the way they're made naturally gives them vent holes. That's why they're often called "beach hats" or "sun hats" - Cloaks. Cloaks are great for warm days because of sun protection (the sun won't even GET CLOSE to the skin) while still allowing more airflow over the body. Just make sure you don't go for the heavyweight woollen ones, but rather the lightweight cotton or linen ones (STILL NO SYNTHETICS). Those are also very nice for dramatic flowing garments. - fastest way to safely cool down? Find shade, take off possible head coverings, possibly gloves, a damp cloth around the neck and focus on your breathing (inhale through nose, exhale through mouth). Your nose is designed to control the temperature of the air intake, whereas your mouth does not. so in through the nose keeps ambient heat out of your body while out through the mouth allows for a lot of heat to be given off to your surroundings. It got a little ranty, but i hope someone benefits from this 😄

It’s like power tools. Cool you can use something old and requires more skill and it’s amazing what they could do with a clear rock but modern tech was developed to improve on that stuff and most of the time it is easier. Necessity is the mother of invention practicality is the father.
