25:10 you gave Nigel hawthorn a run for his money there. So I can’t slot 1 afdd into a flexi bus bar system. Humm, I could stick it on the end and bend/adjust bar as a test I guess. Humm, they don’t work on rings do they. Maybe I’ll give it a miss

Hi David. I love the humour! The entire video is both hilarious and educational. Poor Nick Bundy though LOL Thanks so much for the great laugh and satisfying distraction from Black Friday! All the best from Chicago over in the US (in case there's a Chicago somewhere else). 🤨

Hi Sparky McZapface. Have you got any boring vids where you’re using your Robin 1630 in anger, or at very least feebly? I bought one of these a couple of years ago simply to test earth rods on radio masts, purely for the reason that it looks better than the wee boxes the other riggers use. And it says ‘Advanced’ on the bag, so due to that and because I wear glasses, I’m now the survey guy. I’ve now got to test some spinny motors and other interstellar things like cables. Instructions have been read, but think watching you using it would add the sense of excitement. Best regards Roger the Rigger

The 1630 pops up every now again as my go-to in the cave, but for a more featured look at its functions refer to the VirtaNige vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hmqypmisicejoLM - I think you'll find it's quite boring indeed.

@ Thanks for that, good to know some of its idiosyncrasies. Never too boring…I spent years working in IT, so spent an enjoyable few hours last week with a serial monitor open debugging comms to an old Amprobe PQ55A. Another piece of equipment I’ve picked up cheap that I intend to use to charge people money for gathering numbers. Nice BIOS my the way, I bet you know all it’s ins and outs.

But seriously - be fair - nothing made by man is ever 100% reliable. This may have been just a "meh - one of those things" one-off failure.

Probably ultra-thin copper coated aluminium wire too. For added mirth, check the plug fuse is actually even in circuit, and crack it open to see if it has any sand in it.

I bought BG sockets years ago to do my whole house and was not impressed. I'm thinking they were actually fake as the quality is that bad. The light switches didn't even work and had to go back

Crabtree have now changed their sockets and FCUs Ive noticed and what was once a good product is now shite. I have also heard of problems with new MK sockets.

Now that is interesting, yesterday I did a kitchen second fix, customer supplied brushed steel BG sockets, Second fixed it all and turned it on .... Bang.... Course I question maybe I trapped a cable, unscrewed them all as it was only 4 sockets,tested the cable etc. Turned out to be the bludy socket itself.

What wiring accessories are actually worth buying now? Crabtree? Click? I fitted a load of Hager and not only were the switch rockers not the same shade of white as the faceplates to begin with, after a year they were even worse looking. MK terminal screws are made of pot metal.

BG are terrible kit. Will never buy that brand
@Cardetailingburnley10 күн бұрын
This is an issue with manufacturing as I have found that quite a few sockets are not as good as they used to be. I am getting more in favour of MK sockets but the landlord I work with uses lap sockets and accessories which I would hand it to him they are better than anything I expected however he does listen to me on consumer units now because he use to install BG split load boards and I refuse to touch them because the lids never fit correctly.

Quoting failure rates by manufacturers is probably only half the story as a lot fails just go in the bin, dont make back for warranty claim. Flood lights are awful personally i use time gaurd pro and install a lot on industrial estates with photo cell control pretty reliable over several years.

My introduction to BG accessories was through a client whose kitchen sockets (same finish as in your video) were losing the neutral on one side, one after the other. BG did send replacements on receipt of failed items or a video or something though. With those, the boards that mostly seem to be poorly fitted by careless people and the luceco floodlights, I generally swerve that company's wares these days. I assume they make the LAP clone accessories too. Scolmore accessories aren't perfect but feel like a more grown-up choice so that's what I fit unless needing to match existing
@eastrenewables10 күн бұрын
I nearly lost a finger tip to a BG socket recently when switching it on it went with a bang, a tear down revealed that the switch pushes the live dangerously close to the neutral. interestingly Bryne electrical had exact same this week and I’m sure we can’t be the only ones
