Pretty much just look for reasonably priced kits that you like the look of. Also avoid Amazon if possible since you can run into 3rd party sellers that set ridiculously high prices on kits. The Gunpla reddit community has a list of trusted retailers from around the world.

Hobby Lobby and Michaels also have gunpla/Gundam sections in the model kit isles. I’ve found a lot of good stuff from HG to MG.

Just built my first gundam! It was the HG forbidden gundam. It was kinda bad quality... the scythe didnt really hold still with the hands because the hole was too big. But this guide helped me on which tools to use! Thanks!
