Big B, I watch all of the Big 12 related programs, and yours is the best. Very fair, very level-headed, very honest, very well presented, masterful language skill. Total Pro. Don't always agree with everything, but that's alright. Like with this list. I'll just leave you with this, Sampson is 6-3 against Self. And, with all props to Scott Drew and his rescue of the Baylor program, Sampson had an even harder job. No scandal to overcome, but those dissipate on their own in time once the bad guys are jettisoned. True, Baylor hadn't been a basketball power since the late 1940s, but Scott was positioned in a power conference, with a smallish but rabid fan base, a nice collection of wealthy donors, and decently modern facilities. Kelvin took over a once glittering basketball program that had fallen into such a failing rut the school was thinking of junking basketball. Though much larger than Baylor, UH is to a significant degree a commuter school, students just trying to get that degree, not fully invested in the university or its sports teams. UH does not have the bigtime donor base that UT, A&M, Baylor, TCU, even Texas Tech have. Cougar sports are just another option in a large city flooded with entertainment offerings, After being left out of the Big 12, UH was mired in Conference USA, then the American Conference by the time Sampson arrived. He inherited old and lame facilities, an almost derelict arena, a passive administration, and a program that had been to the NCAA Tournament but once in the past 23 years. From that rock-bottom, he had the Cougars back in the Dance in four years, and since then has the most wins in college basketball. His program has been called the most consistent in college basketball, with, year in and year out, the highest "floor" of any team in college basketball. And he built it all from outside of the power conferences. When UH entered the Big 12 there was widespread skepticism. "Yeah, UH dominated the AAC. The Big 12 will humble them." Nope. Sampson's teams just keep rolling. UH won the conference, by two games, in its first season (reprising how UH won the SWC in football in its first year). Sampson will tell you part of the program's "secret sauce" is his assistants and staff, all of whom have had offers to leave, but none do. There's still a Natty to win to cement his greatness. If given a college basketball team for a year and able to hire any coach in the nation to build and manage that team, a LOT of knowledgeable basketball people would select Kelvin Sampson for the job.

You come off a bit ignorant saying Tech underachieved in the tournament last year. The talent on that team simply wasn't there. We flat out weren't very good and he squeezed every drop of talent out of that team to place as well as we did in the Big 12 standings. Ultimately, they lost to a hot NC State team that made the Final 4. It is what it is. You'll see this year how good Grant is with actual talent and a team composition that works together. The first year he took the transfers he could get and this year he made a team to fit a style of play. 23:45

Lloyd at 5 is criminal. He’s #3 at minimum. And only because Self and Drew have titles. He’s been at Arizona for 4 seasons and is the winningest coach in his first 4 season of all time.

Name one coach on your list that made a final four in his first three seasons. You seem to be under the impression that Lloyd has been a long time coach. He has been a head coach for exactly 3 seasons.

Here is my take on Tommy Lloyd. First I like your assessment of Tommy Lloyd. Two things I think hurt Arizona. One is the lack of interest in college basketball in the Pac-12. Travel to Oregon State, Washington State, California (amoing other schools), and the arenas aren't even half full. They are boring games, and Arizona didn't get challenged properly. Two is the whistle happy refs in the Pac-12. You breathe on a person and they called a foul. So, when the tourney arrives Arizona isn't prepared to play physical teams, and have to adjust to a different type of officiating they haven't experienced during conference play. Assoiciate head coach Jack Murphy is more the Xs and Os guy. He used to be head coach at Northern Arizona. I love the move to the Big 12. It is where Arizona always belonged. It has allowed Arizona to toughen up. When Arizona played in the Pac-12 tournament in Vegas, we had more fans than all other teams combined. I know I speak for Arizona fans that we LOVE packed arenas who are passionate about their team. We are too and that is why we fit. We will see when it comes March.
