Snubbers do not come locked. Snubbers come packaged very carefully to prevent any damage during transport. They can be installed very easily and are ready to function. If they happen to be locked due to a sudden "event" such as shifting during transport, they will unlock and be functional without any outside intervention. When we set the spring at the factory we use the ACTUAL force the spring is exerting on the test bench. We do not use, or even have, a load scale on the variable spring itself. By computing the desired new force using the mathematical process explained in this video (which is much more precise than using a load scale) the new force will be accurate enough for most situations. If the new desired force is REQUIRED to be exact then we recommend sending the spring to our factory and resetting the load on our test bench.

Basically the load adjustment bolts are intended for high variation in load change with minimal deviation in load point elevation. When minor correction is needed with respect to altering the load point elevation along with slight deviations in load is not worrisome, it should be tried with turn buckle.

The red and white marks on a constant force spring show the calculated hot & cold POSITION of the spring. The marks do not indicate the load the spring is applying. The LOAD the spring is applying on the pipe remains the same throughout the entire range of travel (this is much different than on a variable spring). Changing the dimension using a turnbuckle will only change the position of the pipe, but not the load the spring is applying. Changing the position of the pipe will shift the pipe load to nearby springs. The only way to change the load that this particular spring is applying is by using the two load adjustment bolts.
