A little more than a 2 MOA drop at (was it 20 meters?). The first one went high because the air in the regulator/metering system was still warm. I didn't hear you clear the first shot. The gun itself being cold on the night would also have had an effect, so It's a shame you didn't leave the entire rifle outside to cool down. I'm thinking the reason is the same as the reason for the speed of sound in air being higher at higher temperatures. Heat is energy so higher temperatures result in higher velocities. It's counter intuitive because cold air being denser, you'd think it would result in higher velocity for both but it does not. I'd like to see it replicated with other designs of PCP to confirm that it's not something specific with the mechanics however. Maybe something like a Gamo Coyote which uses a balanced cylinder system rather than a conventional regulator. (It's an excellent engineering solution which is not inferior to a regulator, just different) The more you learn...
@OutdoorsBritain4 күн бұрын
@@Chris_the_Muso Thank you for your comment, the air immediately drains out of the HW100 regulator when the cylinder is removed also I dry fired the rifle a few times when I put the cold cylinder on. Good Demonstration... Cold air is denser and heavier, that is why Ballistic Calculators, and some Scopes have a place for Temperature, to compensate for it. Then there is Humidity, Humid(Damp) Air is denser, again why Ballistic Calculators, and some Scopes have a place for Humidity, to compensate for it.

barrel at room temp on first set. barrel cooler on second set, due to being outside? pellets at room temp on first one? pellets colder due to being outside on second one? Different cylinder type used on second set(rat works aluminum, what is HW orginal made of?) Like george also says below maybe try with a chrono, cold air is going to increase pellet drop over range due to thermal current, when its warmer the warm air rises so must how ever small decrease drop. There seems to be a lot more things that could effect the drop.

Brother its real, poi shift is a pain. ive stopped shooting just now, due to the cold. exactly as its happening here with your gun, happened to myself a month ago. its good for those not aware of temps having an effect on there guns, to see it. The temp effects the weight of the air in the bottle, so it tends to give a 2inch drop at 40 yards, just under an inch at 30 yards.Beyond 50 you can only hope you hit the target. The Hw 100s are very prone to poi shifr as are the BSAs. You could try keeping the gun warm before use . but it quickly cools down. That said if you keep putting rounds through the barrel the gun will warm up, the poi will improve. Though that no good if your stalking for a few minutes, because again the gun gets cold.
