Are you able to export the animations as sprite sheets using procreate? If not, how do you put the animations into the game?
@Nonsensical2D2 күн бұрын
you can generally create sprite sheets after the fact, but you can also create animations using individual frames depending on your engine.

@@Nonsensical2D Thanks for the reply! Is this how you would recommend doing animations on iPad then? What about Procreate Dreams?
@Nonsensical2D21 сағат бұрын
@@Adam-oy6nc I have tried dreams a bit, but still find that for just creating frames for character animation, normal procreate feels easier..

Your videos are so well-made, it’s hard to understand why they aren’t capturing hundreds of thousands of people, it’s a shame that you’re developing a game and reaching into areas that are less impressive with your particular talent. I just wanna wrap you up in a warm blanket and hand you off to one of my coders to take care of the computer part while you produce game art.😅

Thanks :) I appreciate it. I am technically in a similar but better position than most people though. My background is in STEM, so I at least ought to be a better programmer than I am an artist, which is a fairly good position to be in as a solo developer :) my biggest problem is mostly similar to other people in that I just wish I had more time to do it, but such is the life for most of us, I think :)

How does your line automatically correct itself when drawing a rock?
@Nonsensical2D9 күн бұрын
It's a feature in procreate, I'm not quite sure what other programs that have it. With that said, most drawing programs do have some type of smoothing function that reduces jitter when you draw (which can also be helpful)

Cool! You talked about my game, Rogue Tanks! I can totally see making the water lines more curvy. I already changed the Armor display to a symbol instead of text. That is another nice point about the wood. I've known my graphics have been sub-par, but when I show them to people or ask for feedback, I haven't received advice on how to fix them specifically like you've done here. Thanks a lot!

Your emphasis on readability and consistent aesthetic regardless of skill has helped me SO MUCH in my game art and overall development. I'm both terrified and excited to eventually submit something for review, but your ability to look at something and point out exactly what makes it work or not work, or just makes it feel "off", and how to fix it is incredibly valuable.

I'd love to see you do a video on top-down game art. Most of your vids seem to focus on 2D platformers, and I'm curious if you'd think about a top down video's artistic direction differently at all (I know two of the games in this vid were sorta top-down). Great video as always!

6:24 this is true, nowadays (and ever since fnaf) people find meaning where there isn't any so having ugly or imperfect art (a la binding of Isaac) can make people appreciate and remember your game even if in reality it was all out of a lack of skill

Thank you, can you make a tutorial on how to stop godot from ruining my game art? it always end up looking wonky, it looks crisp on the software but even with no filtering or compression godot displays it oddly
@RisingLightningWizard12 күн бұрын
If it's an issue of art becoming blurry, then try [ project settings -> rendering -> textures ] and then change "Default Texture Filter" to "Nearest." Applying that would deblur the sprites/art in your game.

This video got a bit more delayed than I had hoped. I had to rerecord and re-edit portions of it 3 times :( Patreon video will be up tomorrow, rather than today, for the same reason. Thanks for submissions and sorry for delayed vid. feel free to check out the games, Yestersol, Rogue Tanks and Squid Grid :) As always with these types of videos, I might not necessarily be correct, but hopefully I at least showcase my thought process. This video much like the last one was unscripted and with an extra angle, if you feel ok with this type of style, please comment (they do technically speed up my workflow considerably, this video mostly was delayed due to weird audio-feedback and a rogue white hair strand that bugged me).

Always awesome content friend. Keep it up! I do find some of the jump cuts to be just a bit jarring. Give the end of your speech a second before you jump into the next thought. Feels like you almost talk over yourself a few times. Other than that, I liked the unscripted bits more than the scripted, you can see more of your personality come out. Cheers!
@Nonsensical2D12 күн бұрын
Ye, I also find them jarring at times, the most jarring examples are quite often due to mess-ups though. Where I don't actually have a clean cut of a particular sentence, so I am forced to stitch together two separate takes, would probably get better with time, but it is a problem I recognise :)

I reached the same conclusion: AI works best if used by people who already know how to produce the results themselves, since they'd be able to fix all the issues with the resulting output. Can't get the exact accessory you want? Well, if you can draw in the first place, you can erase what's there and draw it yourself. That said, AI can be great for prompting ideas and for creating placeholders so you can experiment with different ideas.

How do you setup the Tilemap Collider / Composite Collider so that the offset for collision vs rendering is done. Do you just manually edit every tile in the Sprite Editor for a custom physics shape or is there an easier / more consistent approach?

sorry this is a completely terrible take. you use dalle-3 which is outdated by at least a year compared to the SoTA midjourney, flux, or highly customized SD models. you're not using a hybrid workflow with in/outpainting with generative ai combined with manual editing. you're utter dogshit at prompting. why did you make such a low quality video? unsubscribed

Is there a reason why when drawing assets or especially characters, I see some people use a white/colored background instead of transparent?… That seems odd to me 🤔 (I’m using Photoshop + Unity)
@Nonsensical2D21 күн бұрын
I personally mostly use a greyish background. Overall you get some things out of it. if you have missed filling out a layer completely that tends to be noticeable on lighter backgrounds. But The biggest reason is just that you brain is affected by the colours it is surrounded by. So your estimation of "what colour to use" shifts if you are working with a black background vs a white background.

so if you want to grow/shrink an asset in game, like a bush suddenly gets a lot bigger, do you basically have to draw it twice? Or maybe draw it using vector brushes and resize it and save it multiple times?
@Nonsensical2D23 күн бұрын
No, you generally make it for the "bigger of the sizes" and depending on what you mean by shrink, there's a thing called mipmaps that is used to reduce aliasing that might occur (basically this is the engine making smaller versions of the same sprite).

Appeal is the most important aspect of art. Having art with quirks that truly show who you are as a person is so important. People want to connect with YOU. So when you draw a realistic portrait of a celebrity, what is that saying about you? Nothing.
