IIRC, there is a way to unlock that particular radio to transmit on the ham radio frequencies (for those of us that are hams). Does that not unlock the FRS channels also?

@@superpoint43 I saw a video where a ham unlocked the Retivis version of this radio, so I imagine because they’re the exact same radio with different branding the same method may work on this one as well.

Great radio. I bought 2 of those a little more than 2 years ago, for my car and wife's car. We can talk simple and with a couple repeaters on my area.

@@uwayzofoster4753 I talk with my friends also, when they are off work, they love it. I want to study and take the test for technician license for ham radio, they have it, but I wish to find a club or something to help me with. I am CB operator, normally FREEBAND and GMRS as well

Great video! My only suggestion would be to talk about why you made the V cuts on one end and the stop block is sort of obvious, but more in depth in these areas and what you can do with it would be wonderful. Just some constructive criticism. Thanks for sharing!!

Thank You for the review. I bought a DB-40 G about a month ago. I was fairly happy with it. It is pretty basic radio for the money. It output just under 45 watts, which was unexpected. Now the bad. I made a rookie mistake. I had run a coax to the other side of the house for a future antenna. It was not terminated, not shorted, just open. I hooked up that coax instead of my coax hooked to my GMRS antenna (I have been using the radio for a month with zero problems). I keyed down for less than 3 seconds. Smoke pored out of the radio. I opened the radio and the main chip was melted. Any quality radio will fold back the power to save the radio when the antenna port is open. Not this radio. Again, the coax was open, not shorted...I checked. Bottom line, if you have any problem with your coax or antenna, this radio will roach itself. Not an ideal thing as it cooked itself so quickly. Even with a SWR meter in line, if there was a problem, your radio would be toast before you could hardly realize there was a problem. Radioddity promptly sent me another radio, so kutos to them. Be very careful and be sure to check your coax/antenna on a regular basis. For the asking price, this radio should have high SWR protection. It does not. Buyer beware. Given what happened to my radio, I would not buy one if I knew how easily this radio will fry itself.

I think the fact that they still replaced the unit means they stood by you and the product. I agree, a more expensive radio might have had better protections, but properly installed and used mine has been really good. 73!

Good video. What did you use for a 12 volt source may I ask? I wish someone made a wall worth with a cig lighter plug in that would work so I could use a mobile GRMS radio in my house. I ha e my license and have had for about four months now and have a great wouxan radio HT.

The venting on this unit is actually pretty good. The battery you mention is really small and most battery failures happen when charging and it's unlikely you would be wearing in unless you had a REALLY long extension cord.

Please check your facts Sir. The GMRS SERVICE allows for 22 channels plus repeaters. THE RADIO can have all the slots it wants. Want to program some spots to MONITOR 2 meter? You've got room, don't want too? Don't.

The smell comes from d-limonene which can be purchased as a cheap solvent and I imagine makes a great Firestarter that's less volatile than naphthalene or hexane.

Well if the product maker says it's "completely waterproof" or "it lights as easy even when soaking wet" and you're reviewing their product on your channel then get a glass of water, turn on your camera, dump one firestarter in the water for a minute, then try to ignite wet and dry firestarters side by side. I mean if you're really reviewing stuff not just unpacking it.

There is no such thing as efficient solar panels. The max. I've seen is 22% efficiency which is not at all efficient.

@@patriotcanuck6485 I will respectfully disagree Sir. When was the last time you paid your Sun tax? Sure, equipment to harness it costs money. A NORMAL investment in my mind. If you think solar is inefficient, check out how much of your PAID for fuel simply goes to waste heat in your vehicle. Perhaps living so far from the equator makes solar a bad investment for you, I can see that. Have an awesome day!

This would be akin to a traditional archery tool and its accuracy and range are determined mostly by the operator. I've seen guys split a playing card at 30 yards with a slingshot, that would NOT be me. I'd say given a shot at a squirrel or rabbit at 20 yards I would likely walk away hungry 50% of the time. Given some solid practice, those odds and range improve.
