Thanks for share your knowledge Randall! Could you help me to find out a good Reed for my bellite beechler 7? Thanks

I’ve found that vandoren java (green 2.5) work very well. The Java red are great too but I need to file them down slightly. Blue box is alto great but need even more filling.

Thanks. How do i play higher notes to match the subtone of the lower notes?
@randalclarkmusic433310 күн бұрын
@@coin777 a subtone really only muffles the lower harmonics, so as you get higher (and those harmonics are not present) the affect is diminished a lot. So it isn’t very practical to do it on higher notes. But you still might be able to get a little bit of the effect. You would accomplish it by doing it the same way as you do on the low notes.

Great sound, tremendous song, it turns out very nice, but it would have been a thousand times better with the Beechler Bellite. You have a more expressive sound with it, without a doubt, congratulations, you are a great saxophonist.

Your sound is definitely more mature with the correct voicing but I still don't like it. Maybe it was just the audio recording?
I have learned a nice benefit of being in "invisalign" style braces I have built in protection. Great descriptions and demo.

Durga HR 7 i bought after this video, nearest Sanborn sounding MP specially if use to playing HR mouthpieces Can't wait until I get my hands on it However trying a plastic reed is going to be a challenge Can you get same sound from a normal reed ? Did you try if so what brand and strength ? Thank in advance 🙏

Nelson Rangell plays a Durga hr too. I’m playing a 2.5 legere American on this video. Vandoren red Java 2.5 or Rico jazz select 2H works well too.

Greetings Randall, when you play the bellite is heard very loud? Or is it a matter of mastering the mouthpiece over time? I want to buy one but I was trying a friend's but to make it sound I had to play very loud
@randalclarkmusic43332 ай бұрын
@@jq_music you should be able to play very soft if the tip opening and reed strength are appropriate for you. I can play soft or loud as I desire.

I play both on Tenor. The DV is my primary but if I need a touch more punch the superjet is the ticket. Gerald Albright is playing a superjet. He loves it.

Hey Randal, well thought out lesson. As someone who hates having to change setups for various styles. How much do you think you can get away with playing classical music on a jazz setup by adjusting your sound concept. Every time I try to use a classical setup the sound just feels so small it messes with my head. Cheers, Bruce
@randalclarkmusic43333 ай бұрын
@@bruceallan3336 it would depend mainly on the mouthpiece design, the baffle type, and the tip opening of the mouthpiece as well as the strength reed that you’re using. Many people play jazz on somewhat closed set ups like a Meyer 5 or the like, and can somewhat get away with playing in a near classical way. However, without a proper classical mouthpiece/Reed set up, it would be very difficult to get a proper tone that would suit blending in a classical section or have the right sound for a soloist. If you are complaining about sounding too small when playing classical, that is most likely due to the fact that you’re reed may be too soft. Using a proper classical mouthpiece set up with a stiffer Reed designed for classical playing like a Rico reserve, or a Vandoren blue box (usually filed/double cut, with a thicker heart) should produce a very open and resonant sound. It should not feel small at all and you’ll be able to maintain a dark core with an even timbre and singing quality to it. On my Classical set up I play a minimum of a 3 1/4 strength. Anything softer will feel bright or small and closed.
@PedroBarbosa-qh6hy3 ай бұрын
@@randalclarkmusic4333 That's my setup, Meyer 5 with 2.5 Legere. I feel that I can change between styles easier than any other mouthpiece.
@bruceallan33362 ай бұрын
Hi Randal, Thanks for the very comprehensive reply! I suppose I'm not going to be able to get my Jody Superjet to produce anything like a classical sound. I have to say changing setups and trying to produce a completely different sound on an instrument that one has worked on so hard to achieve a relevant and personal tone, I think I'd rather do that on a completely different instrument. But hats off to guys like yourself that can do both. Classical saxophone does seem to be increasingly popular and as educators we need to be able to cater to that, Thanks again for helping! Cheers, Bruce

Hi Randal, another great sounding demo! Surprisingly different sound from the these MPs. The Gaia has a lot more pop, like a bright Phil Woods thing. The Brahma has a really full core and is a bit muted in the tops, an interesting sound. I can’t help think in any kind of mix the Gaia would sit better. I have played Theo’s new tenor Brahma and that would seem a little different to the alto version. Cheers matey, Bruce
