If you’re going high baffle, go all the way! I totally prefer the sound of the Super Jet. No compromises.

Not sure if I am or not, however, I do think the super jet has the most complete sound spectrum of all of these options.

Hi Randal, great demo on all these mouth pieces. Recording quality is excellent, I like the dry but not too dry approach. In terms of resistance and easy of playing which did you get along with the most? Are you looking for a new setup for yourself? Interesting the Drake really did sound the most "Sanborn" . Thanks for putting this up, great playing, especially in this edgy alto thing. Cheers, Bruce

Thanks. Yeah, I find adding just a touch of reverb in the background helps you hear some of the color which isn’t apparent on a completely dry recording. The easiest to play by far was the hard rubber Durga, but I find I prefer the tone of the super jet. The Drake fits somewhere in between

They are all nice sounding mp‘s. Except of the Drake i tested them all in a personal shootout at Thomann. I decided to buy the Mindi Abair II. For me this mp was the most versatile one. Nice Video - Thank you

You sound amazing in any of them. For you, which one is the most versatile? And which one is the least resistant? Greetings with respect and admiration from Bogota Colombia 🎷🔥

All of them were very free blowing. The Durga was the easiest especially the HR although I thought the SuperJet had a little more of a rich core to it, and I really like my sound on it. The Drake was the most “Sanborn” of them all and played great too. All winners.

What are your thoughts on the Super Jet vs the Beechler? I’ve played a Bellite Custom 6 for almost 20 years and love it but wanted to try something new. I just picked up a Super Jet to try out. I like the Vandoren Jumbo Java but it was maybe a little stuffy in the mids and a tad buzzy. I’m sure it’s more based on its relationship with my horn than the actual MP (Buffet Expression Alto; naturally lends itself darker) I also picked up a dark piece in the HR* Custom Dark to try something completely different and it’s pretty amazing, unique tone and can push it pretty good when you kindly ask it to 😀 Great video! Thank you for this! 🙏

The Beechler and the super jet are not really very comparable because the Beechler just has a slight rollover baffle while the super jet has a high step baffle. They are really two different beasts altogether. Superjet is going to be a much more aggressive sound. But if you’re going for that more Sanborn/Nelson Rangell-ish kind of sound., the super jet will not disappoint. One thing I like about the superjet is even though it’s more aggressive it keeps a very nice Rich core. If you’re trying to find something that sounds similar to the Beechler, but will give you some more ease of playing and perhaps a little bit more cut I would recommend the Eric Marienthal retro revival.

@@randalclarkmusic4333Thank you for your reply! That is so kind of you! For sure, I would love to check that MP out sometime! What are your thoughts of 90’s Bellite Custom vs ARB vs RR Eric Marienthal? Also, could you compare the JJ DV to the Bellite?
