Ah, the good old days, before the woke virus infected the us military.

Ed, Question please, what's the best way to transfer 8mm video? Do you have recommendations on whom? I have over three hours at least of small and large 8 mm film. Again, love to see the " old girls" . I walked the weather deck of the USS Missouri in moth balled condition in Bremerton in 1964-65. It was a great experience for a 12 year old then.

If you just have a few and don't want to invest in digitizing equipment, you can send it to a company like Southtree or Kodak. Catch them when they have a 50% off sale. I use them to do my 16mm film. But if you are up to doing it yourself here is the link to a video I did of how I do it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaq3cmabd8ecf7Msi=7gbPBjuS4hzWq9jI

So neat to see the old cruisers thanks for sharing. My Uncles served on the earlier class from the early 1930's, the CAs Astoria, Quincy, and finally the Vincennes Many know their fate at the battle of Savo Island

Fantastic video: and from a time many of us took for granted, not only the access to airfields and number of air shows, but the sheer number of aircraft types parked up to view and flying.

Served with VAH-4 1961 to late 1964, 2 deployments on the Oriskany, no sooner got back to NAS Whidbey then the squadron sent me back out to serve on the Bonnie Dick to replace another lead AO who was over enlistment, guess what I ended up in the situation was a month over enlistment they flew me back to the states in an A-3 that was damaged on a prior cruise, had enough was discharged a week later!

You'd use a LOT more fuel. And you can do classroom training while you're waiting for the equipment to arrive.

Well, if it was spotted in Texas and going east bound, it can't be headed back to California; could be our government emptying out the Red States military armories and depots, for something big prior to the elections, hum.

Road this train 4-5 times as a kid in the 1950's and early 60's, then again in 1985. Need to go do it again. I remember as a kid, the D&RG was still running narrow guage freight trains between Durango, Farmington, NM, and points east. All their engines have been converted to run oil now. No more coal.

A friend sent me a link to your clip of Subic Bay, Phillipines, so I thought I'd look at some of your other videos. I lived in Longmont for 42 years and moved about five years ago to a small community that is about 15 miles northeast, with the old rail line from Longmont running right through town. This was really cool to see. I remember in the 1950's going on a school field trip to the sugar beet plant in Longmont to see it all operate. Brought back a lot of memories. Thanks!

It's a Dixie class destroyer tender (AD) or a sub tender (AS). The bow bulwarks & size of the foc'sle are the give aways. Surface combatants with bow bulwarks would have been WW II cruisers until the Perry & Knox class frigates & the Ticonderoga class cruisers by the 1980s.

Great information. Thanks!
@MKCMLT5 күн бұрын
There is a small bit of footage of a change of command on a sub, so I think you sub tender theory is correct.

If this train is heading EAST of Schulenburg, TX, then it's very likely the destination is JRTC at Fort Johnson (formerly Fort Polk), Louisiana. A lot of support vehicles. Too far away to identify bumper numbers. But, seeing as there is some armor on this train, and that Schulenburg is in south central Texas (way south of Killeen), and that it's heading EAST toward JRTC, I'd put my money on 3rd Armored out of Fort Bliss.

Tank train? I saw 3 tanks and a couple IFV's mostly support and logistics vehicles.

Probably a unit going to Fort Irwin for an NTC rotation. They will draw their tanks and IFVs there but take their own support vehicles.

My dad would've been aboard the Rochester at the time of this filming. At the time, he was a Petty Officer 2nd Class Lithographer running the ship's print shop. My mom and sisters and I were pier-side at the homecoming when Rochester returned from their WESPAC deployment. Dad brought us kids all brand-new bicycles from Japan. Thank you for posting this. Let me know if you have any video of the USS Toledo CA-133. He also served aboard her in 1959.

The base was pronounced "May-ther," not "Ma-ther." The officers in the video are not pilots, but navigators. This was long before the days of GPS so navigators were essential to getting the aircraft to the correct location to fulfill their mission and Mather Air Force Base is where all Air Force navigators were trained, and they had to rely on TACAN, VOR, solar navigation and dead reckoning. My first navigator orientation flight was in a T-29, which all of the aircraft shown on the ramp in this video were, back when this video was made in 1974. My next navigator training rides were in the T-43, a military version of the Boeing 737, and oh my goodness, what a difference--it was like going from a wind-up wrist watch to an iPhone. I'm glad I was able to experience the differences between then and now. Thanks for the video--fond memories.
