thank you for the informative video! its not only islanders own the houses but not the land, right? its everywhere in Canada- you buy a house but you're renting the land from the government, correct?
@onceuponacity16 сағат бұрын
I guess you could say that you are indeed "renting" the land because at any time the government can tell you they need your property. The government pays you "fair" market for your property and you have to move per law. Metrolinx construction is an example of that. Thank you for your thoughts @LifeAdorable

yeah, same question where have they gone? seems like they have place to live?
@onceuponacity16 сағат бұрын
No where 2 go, homeless shelters are full and many folks are turned away cause there are no beds available.
@LifeAdorable20 сағат бұрын
hmm, I thought these people have rooms in shelters, don't they? the thing is that they just don't want to live there because of certain rules one should follow living in a shelter for example 1) you can't take drugs 2) there is a schedule, you should be home till 9pm otherwise doors are closed and etc. I thought these people live in tents because they don't want to follow the rules, which is their choice. but in winter there are no tents? Where do they live? Do they return back to shelter? so they HAVE a place to live?
@onceuponacity16 сағат бұрын
The shelter system is a hot mess. Some choose to sleep outside, for a litany of reasons, their choice I guess. But some are forced to. Families and children generally find a spot in a shelter or hotel but single men and women must wait till a bed is available in the shelters. Sad.

Not sure if it's b/c I'm a Cap, but I ❤ goats (despite my mermaid tail), Sally. 🌻🐐 And I greatly enjoyed your tour of Cabbagetown: the liveliness of Riverdale Farm; how you lowered your voice so respectfully while reading one of the eroded gravestones (I too was saddened to see the toppled one); the history of the community's early, impoverished residents; your information about the preserved houses and surviving businesses; the colorful names of streets, like Sumac and Amelia; the glorious autumn foliage; how you walked through the crunchy fallen leaves; the vivid street art on the sides of houses and commercial buildings; the close-up of the antiques shop (I love 'em, too) -- and, overall, your characteristic vocal modulation, which is wonderful for storytelling. If there were a Canadian award for Griot of Neighborhoods History, it should go to you, Sally.🏆 Love these two remarks the best: (as you're reading a Halloween mat) " 'Enter with caution.' That's what they say about my channel" [your laughter] and (as you approach a window of a building under restoration) "Nosy little bugger I am." 😆😂🤣 Regarding the latter, the former journalist in me says: Genuine curiosity about a meaningful subject always leads to a great story. I used to believe that the best scoops were news article ideas; now I believe they're made of gelato or ice cream.🍨 Wishing you a Happy Thanksgiving, Sally!🙂
