My dad fired Bren guns in the British army in the 1950s. Given their accuracy, rate of automatic fire and magazine size, he reckoned they were best used as self loading rifles.

When I served in an Infantry Regiment in the British Army in 1950 I had to do an NCO's course in order to get the coveted one stripe as a Lance corporal. During that course they covered the Bren Gun and it's .303 round and it was compared with the US .300 round and it was said that the .300 had a higher velocity which over a given distance meant that had a lower trajectory a disadvantage in that it's beaten zone was smaller. This was a disadvantage when firing the Bren on fixed lines the mounting for such was available in all Company stores. This was particularly important with the Battalions MMG Vickers and also the Bren which when set up in defence on fixed lines was aimed diagonally across the front to get maximum advantage of the beaten zone. So bullet penetration is not everything! Happy days!

12.29 mins. It looked like what is left over when the Predator has taken what he wants.... namely that skull. I half expected you to run your fingertips over the top of the skull like the Predator. That was absolute destruction. Congratulations, you managed to turn a piece of hard body armour into a body splattering projectile.

The standard plates we had in the army are a laminated ceramic, that's why it says handle with care. The sabot has stability issues certainly. Yeah, stop throwing the magazine in the dirt unnecessarily 😂

Finns used the Lahti L-39 against soviet tanks and for anti-air in ww2, it's not meant against soft targets... It couldn't take out heavier tanks like T-34, but smaller ones it could and other armoured vehicles. It's too big for one man, weights around 50kg and is well over 2 meters tall, it was towed on the firing spot where a crew then deployed it. It's effective for sure, but a bit clumsy to use.

Penetration isn't everything. Once a .303 hits, it tumbles. You're not getting up from a Lee-Enfield or Bren hit.

Like most UK kids in the 1970s, I trained on the Lee Enfield No4 Mk 1 0.303". It was the rifle all the cadets trained on! Most only fired blank rounds on 'Field Days', playing 'Cowboys and Indians' - as we then disparagingly termed it! - but we also shot them on 25 yard/22 metre outdoor ranges. If you were involved with the Rifle Club, you also shot at 200 and 500 yards as they were the standard competition ranges. These rifles were set up properly, as far as possible, and generally well looked after although there were usually ructions after a 'Field Day' as you could put money on someone using one of these competition-spec weapons being 'borrowed' for the mudbath! I found them very easy to use, obviously we employed the slings and elbow pads to best use, and shoot to a reasonably consistent level of accuracy. All of my mates who trained on them at the same time say much the same thing. The 7.62mm round, used in the SLR and the match rifle, was far more powerful. Despite knowing how to hold a rifle correctly, lying prone on the firing point, I still have a distinct vertical ridge on the bridge of my nose from being struck by the ladder sights when shooting @600yards on the NRA 'Century' range at Bisley in 1978! No blood and no tears but it did make my eyes water! And, yes, I did shoot all of my other rounds, too! Several of my mates who later joined the armed forces tell me that most of their taller colleagues had a telltale scar, either on their nose or just below their right eye! You could hear the 7.62mm round was travelling faster down the Butts, it made a sharper 'crack'!

54r is popular for rechambering .303 British guns with damaged chambers. I've gotten quite used to seeing 7.62x54r cases with the telltale bulge littering my club range.

To think that the a10 thunderbolt shoots a 30mm cannon at a rate of around 3,900 rounds per minute ,so just think of the damage on the ground from just 1 projectile, let alone around 800 of them hitting the ground near you, just one round close to you will kill ya?🦘🦘✌✌
