I “ADORE” the Rebellion lineup, I have 5 rods, they’re Head-to-head with the Zodias - These made me literally loath the Elite lineup of rods, definitely less sensitive, unbalanced, and much more heavier!

Interesting…I’ve never considered dedicating a DC reel to pitching/skipping/etc. But all things considered, the braking on a reel doesn’t really affect whether or not I use it for a given application…at least I’ve never really done that in the past. I just have a metanium on an 844mbr dedicated to work around docks, etc…basic, light-handed braking on a good rod. A good rod makes the bigger difference for me, personally. Guys, if you’re buying really tricked out brakes in order to pull off these techniques, you’re going to get sooooo much better once you just back em off and feel it as you go. Your control will get better and as a consequence, you’ll backlash less. It’s still going to happen regardless of reel. There’s nothing you can do in “close quarters combat” situations. You’re just going to hit a branch or a dock piling sometimes…and skipping has an element of chaos theory to it where you’re *going to backlash* sometimes. I’ve been doing it for decades and still have a “welp…this reel is done for the day” incident at least once a year. BUT, getting your thumb under control will help there, as well.
@fishwithoutfear8970
@fishwithoutfear8970 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you in theory; however, the braking system really does matter when you're kayak fishing. You're already not as stable, and on a poorer platform than a boat, with less space. These braking systems make it easy to skip, and you know what? That's what you want. Kayak fishing is already hard enough. These reels make skipping a lot more practical from a yak.

Should have used fluorocarbon
@fishwithoutfear8970
@fishwithoutfear8970 2 жыл бұрын
I actually do skip with fluorocarbon most of the time. But I wanted to use braid because it's LESS forgiving. You mess up with braid that reel is done for the day. Fluorocarbon lets you get away with more.
@Davo2233
@Davo2233 2 жыл бұрын
@@fishwithoutfear8970 I agree that braid is nearly impossible to get a bad backlash out of , however it’s harder to backlash if you have a clue how to set your reel up. I make as long if a cast with a 3/4 oz trap, peel 5 more yards off then lay tape over the line still on the spool so the whole spool is ruined. Any line with memory is 10 times easier to backlash
@fishwithoutfear8970
@fishwithoutfear8970 2 жыл бұрын

@fishwithoutfear8970 2 жыл бұрын
If I could only choose one? The tatula sv. You can do so many things with both, but I find the sv is better for skipping, but it's also just a nicer frame for doing things like jerkbaiting, frogging, really any kind of twitch style movement you use with the rod. The tatula is just so palmeable and comfortable in hand, whereas the dc is kind of bulbous.

I would liken the DC to training wheels, while the SV is like a racing bike. Compared to the SV, the DC definitely does choke out the casting distance IMO. Practice a lot, set the SV to like 8-10 and you can skip a dock all the way back to the shore. Easily 20yds of skipping with the right bait
