It has become apparent, the Anglo Saxons, your British blood, have apparently deemed themselves the “chosen ones”, the anointed race of the lord and almighty, commissioned to drive out the heathen and to plant their institutions and religion in every Canaan they can subjugate. The idea of a “destiny” connected with this race has gone far to justify and if not sanctify many crimes on either side of the Atlantic Ocean, that if nations could be personified, both the United States and England should hang their heads in shame and weep scalding tears of repentance! -Abiel Livermore, from the “War with Mexico Reviewed”

Here, Don is a very good brother, because Phil has problems to braethe
@CalebAchsah19 күн бұрын
@hummelne7041 - Yes, I see it now that you mention it. Phil is struggling to breathe, to sing, and to reach and stretch the final chord. He holds his guitar but doesn't try to play it. It seems to take all his energy just to push out the notes. I did not realize that COPD had already begun to affect Phil's breathing 20 years before his death. The comments often paint Phil as gracious, congenial, charming, and "hail fellow well met." Then Don is described as selfish, prickly, headstrong, and mean. But I have never believed it. One reason I've never believed it is that Phil himself described Don as flexible, willing to listen, easy to work with, and the very opposite of a power-hungry lead singer. Phil said that Don was not at all a domineering control-freak. In this video we can clearly see how tenderly Don keeps looking at Phil to be sure he's all right. So I often wonder if the many rumors about the brothers' difficult relationship were not manufactured and exaggerated for the sake of publicity. Don said when they were singing, they could read each other's minds. I don't believe that kind of harmony is purely musical. I believe it is emotional as well.

@CalebAchsah11 күн бұрын
@@hummelne7041 - Congratulations on your English. I can't speak a word of German. Not one word! I have thought a great deal about Don's "unpopularity." I think that he was greatly misunderstood because he was the introvert of the two. There is a photo of Don leaving the stage. As he passes by several tables of fans and admirers sitting in a restaurant, he does not look at them. He does not acknowledge them at all. He does not say, "Thanks for coming out." His face is solemn, very private. Like a man who just wants to lie down. I actually know what that feels like and I can truly understand.

Won't it be an eye for an eye leaving everyone blind? I suppose people are becoming increasingly polarised not only in India but throuout the world. Count all the right wing govts in the world.

Listening to morons like sharma, modi one is astonished at the ignorance and inability for rational thoughts which exists on both sides of the divide. Such stupidity will keep india back tethered to a fantasised past. The only way out is schooling children in open minded thinking and a study of real history. Not just in india but in every country especially the western countries whose populations are ignorant of their past atrocities. Only by becoming aware of our inglorious past can we recognise our present biases which gives us an opportunity to avoid future conflicts.

This fantastic piece of journalism is made more surreal by the fact that whilst Gene Vincent couldn’t afford a sandwich, just miles away The Beatles were imploding, Syd Barrett was disintegrating and David Bowie was on the ascension. Not to mention that across the water Elvis was playing Vegas. An incredible documentary. Despite all his ailments Gene Vincent was still dynamite and that ragtag band are on fire. I can only dream of what Peter Jackson could do to this forgotten gem!

India does not want to remember the Raj, or what it left behind! That episode in Indian history is anathema to this day. On a recent visit, I found the surviving victims of the Raj, trying to cope with the pressures of modern India. It is a hopeless situation. Many are dependent on foreign money being sent by uncaring relatives!

Abdal Hakim Murad (Timothy J. Winter, Cambridge University): "the jurists of classical Islam reached the conclusions that Islam requires consistent military action against unbelieving peoples unless a treaty exists with them". The Sufis also thought that it was important to engage in the lesser jihad (i.e., warfare for the sake of spreading Islamic rule). Even Rumi writes about this. Sufism is not the hippy version of Islam.

William Dalrymple who everyone praising, forgets that Islam is a imported religion from Middle East, and not from the Subcontinent, it's very natural and ethos is unlike the region it invaded, Vedic Religion has allowed religions from everywhere as long as it doesn't impose it's ego on others religion in the Subcontinent....something Islam does all time .. Dalrymple is someone who hankers for the British Raj maybe he should make documentary about what his people and how the British systematically robbed and destroyed India's GDP ..this documentary is about Islam and he is showing Islamic influences.. he is just a apologist for Muslim destruction of Hindu temples and items, he should concentrate on what his people did to the Subcontinent which was, to rob it blind, instead of praising what the previous invaders did.
