I have spent around 2 months over 30 years or so in or around Arkaroola and we went back 4 years ago and going again in July. Last time we went from the Gold Coast Via Adelaide and followed almost your exact route, leaving Balcanoona and going to the strez track, Inamincka and back via the venture way. I saw you actually camped in my exact same camp site I use each time in the creek in Arkaroola...lol. The last time I did echo camp was on motorbikes before you had to pay for it and I see it hasnt changed. Watching your videos was both reminiscing and also makes me look forward even more to going back in a few months. cheers. Fun Fact I have only ever got two punctures ever from 4wding and both were almost in the exact same spot about 3 kms from Arkaroola village on the main road from a pointy rock. You definitely want to go there with good tyres and at least one spare as those rocks are sharp!

Its such a beautiful place. Reminds me of Central Australia somewhat. Your video's have definitely inspired me to undertake this journey 😊😊😊

Thanks for that. I had considered similar and had written it off as being too hard and time consuming. I note that your protector doesn't cover the white centre section and hinge points which cop a bit of hammering for sustained off-road. Any thoughts? Chris
@Dustydetours
@Dustydetours 11 ай бұрын
Hi Chris, it was a time consuming job but worth it. After thousands of kilometres on dirt tracks the front of my camper trailer is still well protected. You can just as easily make a cover for the centre white section that could also protect the hinges. My observation was that stone damage on that part is limited to some shallow scratches that can be polished/buffed out if necessary. I decided it was not worth the effort for another "skin" on my trailer. To protect the fronts of the raised hinge points, I stuck on strips of self adhesive closed cell foam. Since then I have'nt noticed any damage to the hinges. One last thing, small stones collect in the cavity between the doors and the body which rubs and cause damage. To prevent this I stuck on self adhesive weatherstrips to fill the cavity. An added bonus is that it keeps out mud.

Truly excellent step by step. I have Ulti 763 - so we're almost cousins!! I noticed in your later video that you had some sort of yellow cover/stone protection for nose cone?? Can you tell me what it is and how you went about it? Chris

That track is a sick joke. It's the sort of nightmarish track that gets even worst as wet weather further deteriorates it. They could at least do something with it that'd make it a little more practical to use. And how would they recover a vehicle which had mechanical problems and got stuck on certain parts of that 'goat track' ?
@Dustydetours
@Dustydetours Жыл бұрын
The Echo Camp Back Track self-guided documentation (as well as the verbal advice we received) very clearly warn that this track requires "advanced 4WD experience". It also states that sections of the track are classified as "extreme 4WD". It requires a heavier type of 4WD vehicle with high and low range lock up and good ground clearance. It is not intended to be easy. We thoroughly enjoyed the natural environment and the driving challenge.

Hi nice video..thanks for the opportunity to suss out the road before going on it myself. 👌 How did you find the Strezlecki track? Was there much in the way of soft boggy sand or mainly hard pack dirt and corrugations? Thanks again and safe travels
@Dustydetours
@Dustydetours Жыл бұрын
Glad you enjoyed it. Long stretches of the Strezlecki track has been sealed. The remainder is good quality dirt roads with some corrugations. No soft boggy sand.

Enjoyed the video. Really like the way you have photographed the plants. I'm a South African, some of the plants there, we find in South Africa. I believe they were brought over here during the Boer war. Over two million horses served in the war. Fodder for the horses was imported from Australia and South America and that's where the plants come from.

What ever it takes! I've had 2 Prado 150's, both with bullbars, both had antennas for phones and UHF mounted to them. Probably gone through every make and model of antenna, all destroyed by either spring failing, mount snapping, assembly falling apart or internal antenna failing (well over 20 since 2012 including all the fancy GME and Uniden hollow types) The best solution was to use a non-spring type, this lasted the longest before the cable failed at the mount. Now the best solution is to get a bonnet mount, sits just near the windscreen, mounted on the bonnet hinge and use a non-spring type, no issues now. Enjoying your travel videos, wanting to get out there again.

Insane fuel prices in regional SA, I've driven through that part of Australia and the price of petrol can vary by 60 cents a litre depending on your proximity to Port Augusta or Port Pirie, but it's the same distribution network Perry's

Very expensive. I suppose remoteness add to the cost of delivery and on site operations. But still glad to get fuel when you need it.

When the NSW government barred Victorians from entering NSW , those wanting to return to Victoria from Queensland had to use outback roads in Western Queensland and far north SA in order to get back to Victoria, there's only 2 viable roads through Birdsville track or Strzelecki track via Innamincka, there was actually one guy travelling down to Adelaide from Cairns who nearly perished , after his 2WD broke down on a oil and gas pipeline near Moomba , he was discovered wandering around in 45C heat disoriented and dehydrated by a Santos maintenance crew, fortunate for him or he would have certainly died.
