The Road to Flinders Ranges - Part 2 - Innamincka and Strzelecki Track Camping

During October 2022 we travelled a total of 5000 km on a round trip from Brisbane to visit the Flinders Ranges. From Brisbane we first travelled due west on outback roads to end up in Innamincka in South Australia, all on sealed roads. The wet season provided a unique experience with filled creeks and water holes, green vegetation and colourful wildflowers in the normally arid and dusty areas of western Queensland and South Australia. Recent rains resulted in road closures forcing us to spend two days at Innamincka. Halfway down the Strzelecki Track we found a great campsite with no-one else around.

Hi nice video..thanks for the opportunity to suss out the road before going on it myself. 👌 How did you find the Strezlecki track? Was there much in the way of soft boggy sand or mainly hard pack dirt and corrugations? Thanks again and safe travels

Glad you enjoyed it. Long stretches of the Strezlecki track has been sealed. The remainder is good quality dirt roads with some corrugations. No soft boggy sand.

Thank you for your comments. We were there in October. Was a wet month so the temperatures were generally comfortable.

When the NSW government barred Victorians from entering NSW , those wanting to return to Victoria from Queensland had to use outback roads in Western Queensland and far north SA in order to get back to Victoria, there's only 2 viable roads through Birdsville track or Strzelecki track via Innamincka, there was actually one guy travelling down to Adelaide from Cairns who nearly perished , after his 2WD broke down on a oil and gas pipeline near Moomba , he was discovered wandering around in 45C heat disoriented and dehydrated by a Santos maintenance crew, fortunate for him or he would have certainly died.

Very interesting story. Thank you for sharing. I guess the takeaway is that travellers should be well prepared, carry a good supply of water and stay with the car in case of a breakdown.
