Apart from hand brakes , there are numerous other resons for a stuck axle causing brakes binding .

Very cool. So what happens then there is an "accident", and the train has to stop, causing the molten steel to cool in the tanks? It must have happened at least once in the past. Can they re heat them and make the steel flow again, or does it become a giant paper weight?

Very nice. Purely mechanical so even 60+ years on from when it was built, they can keep it in operating condition and it still does it job perfectly.

In the 1950’s the EA locomotives were traded into EMD for new “rebuilt” E8m locomotives. So the diesel engines, generators, and electric motors in the trucks were all removed. However, the EA shells on their trucks were returned to the B&O. The B&O Museum would need a donor E Unit, and need to figure out to make those internals work, to get that EA unit to run on its own again.

At 5:35 another foamer is standing in a switch. Very easy mistake to make that can get you killed messing around on railroad property. Stuff like that is why the railroads dislike buffs.

NS flipped one of these over in Greenville, SC several years ago. Shoved it on a decrepit siding that gave way under the weight. Valued at over a million bucks! “Norfolk Southern, what’s your function?” This video was filmed at the height of PSR follies, and truth be known, they probably laid off the people responsible for measuring high & wides, and the ones who put the info in the computer! Side note, I’ve never so much shutter clicking in all my years! Must have been like 120 people with cameras present! Lol

Got a dispatcher who wasn't paying attention to his paperwork when he cleared this load on this route! Someone needs to teach him how to read the employee timetable! It shows all the applicable weight and clearance restrictions for each part of the relevant division. Someone in management ain't doing his job training his people! How is he going to explain this to the bosses in Atlanta? 😢😮

nice video, and I'm not trying to tell you your 'business',,,, but I've video'd a few trains and ridden a few trains and of course 'safety' is the major concern, and I all ways video with my camera pointing toward the rear portion of the oncoming train,,,,,, if a train has a 'problem' , it might be showing it,,,ie smoke, noise , smell, something like that. It even could have a car or truck allready derailed and dragging along on the ground, until it gets to a crossing or switch point of something which would then cause the distressed car to completely derail the rest of the train , perhaps near where you might be videoing from. And if i see something coming, like smoke,,,,,I'm backing up,,,,,,WAAAAAAAAAY UP! So it there;s a derail,,,,I'm safe !

I have an HO Scale powered model of this box cab. Model Diecast/Roundhouse Products made the kits for many years. Trying to find a complete kit or working model is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Sure many are found on sites like ebay... but to find an unbuilt , complete kit ?...... hardly, lol .

There were a couple of those switching, hawling ash, and sometimes lignite for an electric company in Texas. It certainly looks like a remote the switchman is carrying but there aren't any status indicator lights on the locomotive. It doesn't have to have status lights but it certainly helps to know it has the correct direction before throttling up.

Too bad they couldn't have purchased an ex-Wisconsin Central locomotive, especially an SD45!
