I have a standing chair. It is older, I bought off eBay. I love the thing. I use it around the house cooking, able to reach stuff in top shelves. I really want a newer model cause the newer ones are a lot lighter. Mine is built like a steel tank, very heavy. Anyone that can not walk or stand, these are worth it.

It's harder to pedal with assist off because the direct drive motor is magnet based, without the current flowing from the battery you have to beat the magnetic resistance with every turn of the crank, that's why it's so hard to pedal.. That's the biggest downside of the direct drive motor, geared motors don't have this resistance.
@DerelictusAnima3 жыл бұрын
@@poppew I do not understand, it's a direct drive motor, meaning magnets, meaning magnetic resistance. And it's not only me, everyone who uses a direct drive motor on their handcycle says it's impossible to pedal it with 0 assist because of the magnetic resistance with each rotation that you have to beat. You're either beyond extremely fit and strong or you're wrong and confused in the way of geared vs direct drive motor aspects..
@Life-ds6kc3 жыл бұрын
I was concerned about this issue when I built my bike. I am sure there is some resistance, but it is a lot less than I expected. Believe me, it was a pleasant surprise :-)
@DerelictusAnima4 жыл бұрын
But the biggest downside of direct drive motor is that once it has no energy from battery being fed into it (riding on 0 assist) it is incredibly hard to beat the magnet with every turn of the crank which makes pedaling a direct drive motor with 0 assist near impossible unless you're a strongman..
@Life-ds6kc3 жыл бұрын
I use a handcycle and have an arthritic shoulder so cannot push too hard, yet have no problem handcycling with my direct drive motor off. It is slightly more difficult to start the bike, but once you are at speed I cannot really feel any extra resistance. Seems like a common misnomer..
@DerelictusAnima4 жыл бұрын
Heavy hub motor on front wheel is great, because the extra weight adds extra traction and the only traction we get is from our front wheel..

Hi! I think I'm misunderstanding what you mean when you say you want to convert your handcycle into an Ebike. Do you mean that you want the bike to be fully electric or just electrically assisted, so that you put in some of the effort and the motor does the rest? The reason I ask, is because I think I would like to do a similar conversion on my own handcycle but I would want it to be assisted, but not fully electric.
@Life-ds6kc4 жыл бұрын
It is assisted, so I can decide how much energy I use and how much comes from the motor..

Enjoyed your videos. An e-bike Handcycle is the ONLY way to ride. Can you please show and explain your Cycle Analyst settings and how you set-up reverse. I had 2 e-bike handcycles. The one I have now uses the Bionx System. Now, They are out of business. I never use the throttle, just the 4 assist levels, mostly level 1 & 2. I only ride the Rail to Trails system. So, the grades are usually no greater than 2 degrees. On my first e-Bike handcycle, I used the ROADRACE Power Pod, you can see it on their Facebook page. It attaches to the rear axle. That was several years ago. It only had a throttle, no PAS assist. I liked the system because it was able to be detached from the bike to load into my van. This made the bike much lighter. I would like to get another handcycle and build it with the rear attachment. I would like to get a kit from GRIN. Justin is a great guy. However, I would like to know what settings you are using with the Cycle Analyst and the control switch. Thank You, Sam

Great video. Good information. There is no other single piece of equipment that offers as many benefits as a standing wheelchair. 1) Numerous health benefits. Some of the many were mentioned in the video. 2) More independence 3)More job opportunities(which then brings up voc rehab as a possible way to fund a standing wheelchair) 4) Psychologically and Emotionally uplifting. Full disclosure, I am an L-1 para from an SCI and I am the East Coast Rep for The Standing Wheelchair Co. This is more than a job to me, it's a passion. I prove that I'm not just trying to sell "our " chair by recommending to anyone interested in a standing wheelchair to try as many as they can, including ours. If you're more comfortable in another company's chair and know all the pros and cons of each chair and company then ....go for it. With my job I see soooo many health issues that could have been prevented or at least improved if a person was able to stand repeatedly throughout the day. That is something ONLY a standing wheelchair can offer. I have some comments on the video. 1) Bravo to you for showing the RESNA report. It's basically my bible as a rep for standing wheelchairs. I refer to it constantly when people doubt what I claim about standing wheelchairs. 2)I respectfully disagree with your claim that standing frames are only "slightly different" than standing wheelchairs. They are a big, cumbersome STATIONARY devise that is not functional at all. I think the ability to be able to stand ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, repeatedly throughout the day and do functional tasks while standing, something only a standing wheelchair can offer, is a HUGE difference to a standing frame. I stand in my standing chair a minimum of 20 and many times 60+ times a day, similar to what I did before I was injured. I ask anyone who is considering a standing frame, ask yourself this, would you have been happy being able to stand only once a day, in one spot for an average of an hour before you were injured? The answer is obviously no. That's what a frame offers. With the option of standing wheelchairs being available, standing frames should be obsolete like pay phones, typewriters, cassette tapes, etc. Between Ebay and FB marketplace there are many, barely used standing frames for sale cause the owners don't want to stand in just one spot once a day. They often make their way to the garage and end up being a junk collector like treadmills and stair-masters for able-bodied people. 3)You mentioned standing as a way to relieve pressure AFTER you get a pressure sore. I wish you had mentioned repeated standing in a standing wheelchair throughout the day will relieve pressure and most likely PREVENT a pressure sore. It's being pro-active instead of re-active. 4)You describe standing chairs that you were not going to discuss in the video as chairs that stand "automatically". A more accurate description is a chair with a powered standing feature operated with a joystick. 5) I was surprised with your experience of "sliding forward" when you demo'd standing chairs and went into the partial standing position. If the things that hold your knees in place (we call them tibia supports) are working and adjusted properly, it seems like this simply can't happen. Your knees are up against the tibia supports. Your knees are connected to your femurs which are connected to your hips. So I don't understand how you could slide forward. Just curious that's all. 6) The Wheelchair88 chair is called the "LEO". It's pretty much a copy of the LEVO chair. I'll bet Levo is not too happy about it either. Look at the name alone. They just took the "V" out of "LEVO". The reason it's so cheap is because it's cheaply made and I believe would not hold up under rugged everyday use and there is no service. You also can't get a demo of their chair before buying it. The way they sell their chairs is strictly on-line. You take your own measurements, send the measurements to them with your money and they send you a wheelchair and you have to hope it feels and fits good. Seems crazy to me. It's been proven to me time after time throughout my life, "you get what you pay for". Basically it's the same thing with Karman standing wheelchairs. 7)It's no big deal, but at one point (5:17) you called the Permobil chair the "Permobil LEVOUSA chair". I realize it was just a slip cause you got it straight later in the video. Basically the way I understand it is Permobil bought the French company "Lifestand" which designed and offered the Helium. I don't know exactly when, but Permobil sold or seperated from Lifestand. Since then the Helium, which absolutely is a nice, sleek looking chair, is no longer available here in the U.S.A. Levo is the only other legit company that offers a manual standing wheelchair other than The Standing Wheelchair Co. When I say legit, I refer to service and parts being offered. 8)In regards to the manual Superstand standing wheelchair made by the company I work for, The Standing Wheelchair Co. based in Saginaw, MI. The website link you offered has changed. The new link is: thestandingcompany.com/ I really wish we had a presence out on the west coast and that you could have tried our chair. I think you would have been impressed. Yes I agree it's not as sleek looking as the Helium, but we've been told been by taller than average and heavier than average people who have tried the Helium and the Levo that they felt more secure in the standing position in the Superstand. We offer more customized features than the others, it's more adjustable, it's able to accommodate heavier, taller, smaller and lighter individuals than the others and I believe our service is unmatched by any other company. Even though the Superstand is exceptionally durable, IF parts are needed, they are readily in-stock and available. No waiting for months for parts on back order. Lastly we are a certified Veteran Owned Small business. It would have been great if you showed the beginning part of this video that demonstrates the manual Superstand. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5bcXqqtgN6IbKc Thanks so much for putting this video out and helping to spread the word about standing wheelchairs!!!
