They used runes until 1900, a little conservative.... It´s probably close the old norse the swions used... The loss of h in beginning of words before a vowel can also be seen on 11th c runestones from Uppland.... I have a theory that they emigrated from Uppland then...

The video has a slight error regarding the belt width inches. Belts were normally narrow, 1.5 cm to 3 cm in width. However, there were also wider belts, up to 4 cm.

Its a wonder why any monotheistic religion would keep Yule or any of its variations, given the meaning is the appeasement of the Gods, and the sun. odin, saturn, Ra. Happy sol invictus everyone.

I don't care... Vikings are long dead & boring as fuck. Their descendents won't even lift a finger to save themselves from genocidal conquest, so let them die out. Bad AI algorithm - stop recommending 12 pages of Viking shit after watching just 1 barely relevant video!

Great video brother , a drought, a act of nature, revealing a natural process, the richer soil where ancient wooden structures once stood , exposing the locations of where a people whos lifestyle was built squarely on and from nature ...that's ironic...and amazing. Skål

To understand what a viking is. Is to understand what it means. Vik(to explore) ing (doing) . Viking is a action. It's a verb not a noun.

Thanks for the great video. For those who may also be watching it now, I've typed almost everything. I hope it will help those who may experience difficulties with listening to the author's Danish accent. Feel free to correct it, 'cause I know there can be mistakes. Who was Snorri Sturluson? Snorri was born into the wealthy and powerful family Sturlunga in Hvammur in Iceland in 1179. His parents were Sturla Þórðarson and Guðný Böðvarsdóttir. Snorri also had two brothers, two sisters, and nine half-siblings. Snorri was raised from the age of 3 or 4 by Jón Loftsson who was a relative of Norwegian royal family in Oddi, Iceland. The reason why he was not raised by his own parents was because of a settlement in court called “allting”. His father Sturla had settled a lawsuit with the priest and chieftain Páll Sölvason. Páll’s wife Þorbjörg Bjarnardóttir had attacked him with a knife and said she wanted to take his right eye so he would look like his one-eyed hero Odin. Sturla had been lucky the bystander had deflected the blow so he was only cut on the cheek. The settlement Althing would have bankrupted Páll but Jón Loftsson intervened in the Althing to mitigate the judgement to compensate Sturla. He offered to raise and educate his son Snorri. Because of this Snorri received an excellent education and made connections that he might not have otherwise made. Snorri got married in 1199 at the age of 21 with Herdís the daughter of Bersi Vermundarson (and were a wealthy family). From her father Snorri inherited an estate and a chieftainship. Snorri was soon after acquire more property and chieftainships. Snorri and his wife had two children together. Hallbera and Jón but the marriage would not last very long. And the got divorced in 1206. Snorri settled in Reykholt in an estate where he made significant imporvements. Including an outdoor hottub called Snurralaug. During his time at Reykholt he fathered five more children with three different women. Snorri would also marry his children into unhappily marriages which would further enhance his political goals and make him more powerful. Snorri was fat and loved to sit (something I cannot understand) for hours in his hottub with a cup of ale in his hand. He was in fact a heavily drinker. Snorri was the wealthiest man in Iceland and he knew the laws by heart. And he was clever and cunning. Snorri used his political powers to benefit himself and his own family but mostly himself. In 1215 Snorri became a lawspeaker of the Althing, the only public office in the Icelandic commonwealth and a position of high respect. In the summer of 1218 he got a royal invitation. So he quit his job as a lawspeaker and sailed to Norway. Here he met the king of Norway Hákon Hákonarson who was only 14 years old. Two years later Snorri was given the title of baron in 1220 by the king of Norway. And he was showered with gifts. And in return Snorri wrote poetry about them. In 1220 Snorri returned to Iceland. And in 1222 he became a lawspeaker of the Althing again which he held until 1232. His fame as a poet helped Snorri to be elected to this position. In 1224 Snorri and a widow Hallveig Ormsdóttir became a couple. She was a granddaughter of Jón Loftsson. Snorri became the most powerful chieftain in Iceland during the years of 1224 and 1230. Shortly after he had written his last book, Snorri was killed because he had betrayed the Icelandic chieftance by selling out the indepence of Iceland to king of Norway. But Snorri had also betrayed the king when Skúli who was a pretender to the Norwegian throne had offered him to make him a jarl of Iceland. After Skuli’s death Gissur had become the king of Norway’s new favourite chieftain. Gissur had received a letter from the king that said Snorri was a traitor. The king had ordered Gissur to capture Snorri and send him back to Norway or to kill him. But Gissur decided to wait. In June 1241 when Hallveig died of sickness Snorri went into a depression and it seemed that he had lost interest in everything. Hallveig’s children (something) Snorri for half of his stuff as if the couple had been married. He said that he would only share everything that was in the east which was what Hallveig had brought into the relationship but also half of his money and valuables. But the two children were not happy about this deal. So the went to Gissur to complain about it. This turned out to be the excuse that Gissur had been waiting for. Gissur gathered support from other chieftaince around Iceland. And in the late night of septemper the 22nd Gissur and 70 men rode up to Snorri’s house (something i cannot understand) blocked the road to the north and another chieftaince army blocked the road to the west. Gissur and his men went into Reykholt unopposed and blew into Snorri’s house. The noise from the splintering wood from knocking in the door must have awoken Snorri. He stumbled out of bed and went into a storage room in his house. Here he was trapped and he hid behind some barrels while he could hear the wind howling outside in the dark and cold night. And all fat men like Snorri would not get far in just his nightshirt while Gissur’s men went from room to room searching for Snorri Gissur asked the priest where Snorri was. If the priest told them where Snorri was or not doesn’t matter because moments later they found Snorri. (something) and said to one of his men: “strike him down!”, “don’t strike!” - said Snorri, “strike!”, “don’t strike!”. The man stroke and so did another and another and Snorri collapsed on the floor. Snorri Sturluson was dead. We have much to be grateful for. Snorri helped us preserved our myths. Even though he wrote them from a Christian viewpoint because Snorri was a Chirstian. Some of the masterpieces that Snorri Sturluson has written is the Prose Edda also called Snorri’s Edda, Heimskringla an Egil’s Saga. There’s a link to the translations of this book in the description.

I find it highly suspicious that any Viking would look down on a male sejd/seer as vikings were highly bound to fate. They believed that almost everything were bound to fate and followed nothing but their own and true path obviously within the limits of the world and tribe/society. A seer was literally the pillar between here and the spirit realm. It sounds pretty christian rewritten as we must assume that everything for certain parts were turned upside down, for the future to not understand or perhaps not want to believe in their true path of faith. Let’s start thinking a bit more rational and think a bit more out of the box. Christians in those days or any religion would want the future and present to think higher of their beliefs.

About six percent of the people from northen Europe have a gene (TPSAB1) that cause HATS (Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia Syndrome) that makes the Mastcells to form Alpha tryptase that is toxic to intestinal worms and som other parasites. The problem with this gene is that yoy can get more than one copy of the gene and thereby get HATS. HATS can make you hyper mobile and give you pain in joints and tendons and some other problems. The scientist that found the gene was JJ Lyons (et al).

Ty for this video! 🙏 My Family/tribe has this tradition for ancient oral traditions. (One feather can of course turn into 5 chickens, I'm well aware of that). I have been Asatru and Christian my whole life. When i got baptized as baby i got a Mjølner/Thors' Hammer in silver in a silver necklace like a amulet. I have never weared a cross but that amulet and im confirmed and go to church often. I have even baptized some. Just want to add some: The Viking; "Harald Bluetooth" was driven by the wisdom of Odin. He was indeed a manifestation of Odins wisdom. Odin is the only of the Norse Gods who talked about a higher "God" (call it what u want), cause he have seen and knows. Thats why he is the God of wisdom and the king of the Norse Gods. Ty Harald! Our Danish founder. ᛟᛞᛁᚾ ⚔️ ✝️ = ❌ ᛟᛞᛁᚾ 🤝 ✝️ = ✅ - 🚬🗿✌️

A Dane telling us that "the Danes were the true Vikings". Never heard that before🤣. I will tell you something you have really never heard before; "Viking" was not used to mean any ethnic group at all until the Romantic era, incidentally just around the time of the dissolution of the Dano-Norwegian union in 1814, a time when it was very beneficial for Denmark to blur the boundaries between "Danish" and "Norwegian" in order to keep all of Norway's former areas of interest as colonies. The term "Viking" in its current meaning is created to be, and still used as, a political indoctrination term in order to prop up your colonialism.

Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency is a genetic disorder that may result in lung disease or liver disease. It can cause Emphysema Earlier in life than a person normal might get it. One benefit, I found, however----I don't have to worry about getting worms!!!

Well if Meänkieli, is considered a different language from Finnish, then by that standard I guess Älvdalska should also be a different language. For a Finnish Swedish bilingual Meänkieli looks and sound like spoken Finnish with a lot of Swedish words mixed in, almost a creole, just öiie the Swedish spoken in Finland has alot of Finnish words and influences in it.

Just a question , As they used wool in the period, why wasnt lanalon from sheeps wool used to water proof things? There is a traditional stockmans coat still used in Australia but is known by any maker as a drias bone. Witch is actually a brand that makes them . They are made from ( traditionally ) flax canvas, basiclly a hevey weight and high thread count linen and are sealed by rubbing and melting lanolin deep in to the fibers and they are so water and wind proof, if you accidentally have the flap on your pocket tucked in, your pockets will fill and hold water. Now i know Australian clothing has nothing to do with vikings but they did have linen and if they had wool, they had sheep and that means they had lanolin. The thought of usjng fish oil to water proof things would have smelled rank, surely someone has found lanolin in fibers found in period cloth?? They would have surely seen that sheep are kind of water proof and put 2 and 2 together and used the fats off wool itself to use. Canvas was used in the age for viking tents. They had access to all of this but no one ever mentions the use of this commodities in the same sentence.
