I liked what you said and the whole story of it but, when you said you were glad you were able to end the suffering of the deer that you ended up getting rather than the one that you ended up injuring and wasn't able to get any meet from it, it kinda made me think then why would you rather have taken that deer, then the one that you injured?
@EthanPageHunter5 күн бұрын
@@wpmissourioutdoors7071 basically, if I have to choose between antlers and meat I choose meat. But since this deer was sick I would rather figure out another way to get meat and end the suffering. That other buck was nice, but ultimately wasn’t the target deer and thankfully his wounds weren’t fatal in the end. It was an odd circumstance but certainly worked out.
@adamboone686410 күн бұрын
Everything you just said I agree with. Trail cameras modern technology is removing the skill of hunting the same way using a crossbow or compound bow does compared to traditional archery gear. However hunting today is different than in the 90’s farmers would give you permission back then. I remember hearing the old timers talk about the what was happening down in Texas with leasing land and charging for hunts, I thought they were being old and crazy. Turns out they were right. America is slowly turning into old Europe, where the wealthy get to hunt. The public land in America has been overhyped by KZbin and tv You literally cannot get way from people in the Colorado mountains anymore. You’re blessed to have property you can hunt.

I have some trees in the lower part of the land that my son's horse decided to debark. They have since died. They have been that way for over a year. Would those be ok to use if they were straight? They are probably hickory, but some are larger than 8 inches in diameter.
@EthanPageHunter12 күн бұрын
Take a good look at the bark cause they are probably oak trees. Horses like to eat the bark off of white oaks for some reason or another. As to them being any good for a bow, hard to say. If the horses have bit into the growth rings then it will be no good.

@@aaronhollenbeck2880 I leave bark on for the drying process. You have to carefully remove bark and cambium all the way to the first ring with winter harvest. It doesn’t peel like in the summer.

Arrow flight is way more about properly tuning your arrow (shaft) to your bow and the biggest key to that is spine than the type of fletching you use. Proper spine is best found by bare shaft tuning by adjusting nock height and trimming the arrow very slightly over and over along with adjusting head weight. Feathers will not be damaged or worn with a properly tuned arrow because they won't even touch the riser. Feathers can easily be treated to withstand water, but even an untreated water soaked feather can fly very well. Even a dramatically damaged feather will fly well. A damaged feather will fly much better than a damaged vane. BUT, you do you and enjoy the flight of the arrow. That's all that matters.
@EthanPageHunter14 күн бұрын
