You never touched on risk of injury lol - I've done both for a few years (CrossFit 2009-2011, F45 current) and the risk of injury in CrossFit has to be at least 10x that of F45. Doing highly complex Olympic lifts as a race against other people is just not a good idea. As people age and get older - I would recommend F45 to like 99% of my friends instead of Crossfit.

I think it's a really good point to be fair. I just don't have any solid data on it to speak about, which makes it a trickier topic to talk about, but it's a really important consideration for sure :)

Hey Peter, great topic. Can you clear something up for me. I always rowed for years on damper setting 10. Minimum 1 hour. Up to 3.10 hours maybe once a year for a marathon. Listening to you, I have been a fool. It’s possible. I’m 66 now, and row at damper setting 10 average 10 K plus . In 1 hour. What would you recommend the damper setting should be then? And the correct drag factor. Thanks in advance ❗️regards, Joe

I pulled my back several times doing CrossFit probably due to several injuries (e.g. back, shoulder, knee) I sustained while a competitive snowboarding. F45 is a good compromise and i have yet to injure myself.

Thanks for the info! Should F45ers have two different pairs of gym shoes then? Thanks!
@peter_day
@peter_day 8 ай бұрын
Yes I would actually recommend they would. One specific for lifting in weights days, and then one for cardio/hybrid days. There are some brands which merge shoe types together, but 2 is better! (And they last twice as long because you rotate them anyway) 😊

Potentially, so I understand that point. But doesn’t that mean the business model is actually better than other brands? An orange theory in crows nest closed down last month in Crows Nest in Sydney and it’s the only orange theory on the entire north shore. I don’t think the OT business model is broken, I think you can make money from it. While it is a factor, I don’t think it’s the biggest one. There’s competition from all around generally, and I think the strongest operators will do best regardless of what brand.

Two things that have affected my relationship with F45 are: - the focus on Mark Wahlberg inside the gym on the screen or in workouts modelled after him. He is not a likeable person, and I don’t go to the gym to copy him. I go to copy my trainers. - the move from 8 week challenges to 6 week challenges. 8 week challenges had the added benefit of a body scan at the 4 week mark, which meant you could make course corrections and change up your strategy if it wasn’t working. The 6 week challenges did away with this, and as a result made the challenge periods less attractive to me.
@peter_day
@peter_day 9 ай бұрын
Oh that’s interesting. So if they just removed Mark and you prefer the 8 week challenges? Challenge length is an interesting one as we know from research 6-8 week time frames are best. Which one within that is debatable

Trained for almost 13 weeks for mens open. But 1 week b4 the race, my buddy's partner got sick. Not wanting him to miss the first ever hyrox Singapore, i dropped my opens and joined him for doubles. It was epic, overcoming the challenges and motivating each other thru the race. Just so happen my buddy sadly now got an ACL injury, and wont be able to do the next hyrox. So guess it was all fated? I'm going for hyrox pro for the next one, really just for the gold badge. 😂 will be taking my own sweet time tho. ✌️

So what shoes did you wear in the end? runners? and how during the race did you track your running pace?
@peter_day
@peter_day 10 ай бұрын
I wore ASICS kayanos for this event, but I got a pair of saucony Endorphin Pros for the next one after doing some research with the top guys for lighter and better shoes. The track was concrete which was fine! To track your pace there’s actually an ankle strap all competitors get, and it will give you the time breakdowns of everything as you work your way around, and you can see this on the website after the race 💪
