I thought it was an incredible book. Every sentence of every paragraph was poetic.

This book sounds amazing. I have liked all of Nathan Ballingud short stories I have read. This sounds a lot different, but I must read it.

Excited to order this asap. Perhaps I can finally get my son to join me in reading science fiction as True Grit is one of our family favorites.

The "Unlikely Children" problem mentioned by Wags has plagued movies and TV for decades. They're actually called "Movie Kids" by producers and writers. Remember that scene in Jurassic Park where the young girl sits down at a workstation, announces "Oh, Unix - I know this!" and controls it like a 733t h4xx0r? That was a Movie Kid.

Great review and agree with it all. 3.5 or a 4 for me though, no way it can site beside the Dune's and Hyperion's out there. Takes a bit too long to get going.

Have read both of his short story collections and have this one on my TBR for sometime early this year. Great review!

I must now acquire his collection from Small Beer Press.

@@SFF180North American Lake Monsters takes some traditional monster stories and turns them into character studies (for example the werewolf story is more about masculine feelings of helplessness than a action packed monster story) but Wounds is just a dark, oppressive series of stories that end up connecting at the end.

I read this immediately when it was released after seeing your list of upcoming books, but it just didn't click for me 🤷♂️ I dont typically like reading from a teenagers perspective, and most of the characters were all jerks haha this would make a great TV show though.

Give me more jerks! 😂 Lawful Good gets boring after a while.
