We learned this in high school band for the drill team to perform to, but it was so much fun to play, we kept as a stand song. We tubas had a blast with it.

I remember singing this song in high school chorus. We would all get so excited whenever our teacher would allow us to set aside the boring regular lessons and just have fun cutting loose with this song. It was usually at the end of class. We just adored those moments. That was years ago and it still gives me chills. You can even see from the looks on the kids' faces that they were listening to their teachers as they were told to open your mouth and ENUNCIATE!!!! The constant mantra of my vocal coach.😂😂

SIDEBAR----> The newbie shy girl student who entered the lunchroom and then departed while the FESTIVITIES were happening RESEMBLES (IMPHO): PAULINE CHALAMET [TIMOTHEE CHALAMET's sister and only sibling]. And this is quite surprising because: Pauline, just like her brother Timothee, ATTENDED & GRADUATED from Fiorella LaGuardia H.S. (Isn't that something. . . . . 😉)

In 1982, when I was a senior in high school, I was in A Capella choir and for our final concert, we did "Fame." It was so fun. And A Capella choir was not the way it is now. What they do now was called "Show Choir" when I was in school and htat was a separate performance group. We were the classical choir.

It's the build up, the mix, the spontaneity, melisma, energy, innocence & lack of self-awareness that would restrict a mere mortal into a coil. An experience I'll never ever forget in the late 90s.

For the character Raul Garcia/Ralph Garci: A number of Hispanic performers would change their names and try to pass themselves off as some other ethnicity. Just think of Ramon Estevez, who instead emphasized his Irish heritage from his mother’s side to become Martin Sheen. In this story, Raul/Ralph wants to make a career by passing as Italian-American.

The show, the star in this piece and the song inspired my son to pursue a career in film. Sadly, he didn't live long enough to reach where he was clearly heading. I just felt the need to hear the song.
