My question is, just how high in feet from the track surface where it happened, to the top of the catch fence? 😮

This track was built in the early ‘30’s. Somewhere there is a black and white racing movie, that was shot at Langhorne Soeedway. I was watching a 8mm movie with my father in law, with him drag racing at Langhorne. ( there was an 1/8 Mile drag strip in the middle) He was a riot. He was laughing as he got beat in each race. The township came out with an amusement tax, and shortly after, the track closed. A couple of box stores stand where the track used to be.

My father and I had just walked away on the front stretch to get food. We heard it as soon as we went under the grandstands. Came back out to see his motor still smoking laying in the middle of the track. Thought for sure we was dead

This was close to the end of the flathead Ford reign, as 1955 was just around the corner with the advent of the Chevrolet small block V8. 🏁 It's ridiculous to put 106 cars on a mile track. That's like putting 106 cows on five acres of pasture grass for food.

I was three-years-old and we lived 10 miles from the track. Mom and Dad bought a new 1963 Impala and years later I learned to drive in it. That place was packed back then. Back when it was a Southern thing.

This was supposed to be the greatest day in nascar history, THE greatest daytona 500, Michael Waltrip getting his first win in the grandest stage of all, Dale Sr watching his son, his team go towards the finish line with nothing but open racetrack ahead in a storybook finish, but in a split second This became the most tragic Nascar race ever.
