I'm only 8 months in to my current job, and I'm already enraged by a "back-in-your-box-peasant" directive to transfer management of projects I've worked hard to build over to a more junior employee. I couldn't imagine someone working for decades and suddenly there's a huge shift in policy which undermines them.. but they have to stay because their financial situation would collapse and they've been so conditioned to accept it as the norm. The older I get, the more I discover the evil of human nature and how a large organization can beat someone down who was initially full of life, resolve, and good intentions. I don't want that life, that is not what I was born to do. That's not what anyone was born to do.

Hi, I just found your channel with this video, and I really resonate with everything you said. I love your slow style content where it’s kind of got the feeling of being just a conversation between friends and I’m so glad I found you. Absolutely subscribing !

It's just been 3 months since I started doing a corporate job and it already feels as if it is sucking the life out of my soul. I have been going back and forth with the idea of leaving, or maybe it's this company and if I take a switch, things will be fine. I am so so confused. Can someone please help me sail through this situation. People around me are saying that because it's the first time i am out in the real world, i am feeling that way and that it will settle in a few years, but i am not sure if it's going to...

I am so happy I found this video! I loved your points about radical self confidence, it pairs really nicely with the concept of radical self love that Sonya Renee Taylor talks about. I also loved what you said about showing the universe that you are serious. I feel like I’ve been stuck in the manifesting and planning phases and this is really motivating me to start DOING!

I love breakfast at Leipzig and was so interested in trying breakfast Highlands and after your video I was determined that I had to get it so I just got it today and I haven’t burned it but it smells so good thanks for the tip. It’s a very unique smelling candle, and I took it out of the box and I have it sitting at my bedside for the rest of today and I might light it tonight, great video just subscribed to your channel !

Howdy, SlowGazers: Here's a 2-year update from 2024! The short of it is: I am HAPPY. I haven't gone back to a corporate, 9-5 lifestyle since making this video. Instead, I'm running and operating my own business in the field that I trained in. My business partner is also my life partner and we're starting a family this summer (2024). We've been successful enough for my husband to also leave his corporate 9-5 job in 2022. Together, we're making our entrepreneurial life work-it's not easy, but it's ours-one day at a time. I'm not posting to KZbin often these days, but you can get all of my key learnings, pivots, and successes in writing through Substack: heybearbear.substack.com I sincerely appreciate your stories and comments on this video. Blown away. Take care and slow down, gaze inwards. xoxo Diana

I'm 52, I knew I needed to change job 15 months ago, I had the new contract in my hands.... amazing salary. I stayed to be kicked off now. My fault. Do not marry a company, do not fall in love with any company, you just work there in exchange for money.

I could relate to so many points in this video. I am also a graphic designer in a corporate setting right now and feeling stuck. You must've been a talented designer an amazing person for having those roles and having people reach out to you for opportunities! I feel that if I quit I will have nothing, I don't know where my source of income will come from and for that reason it's holding me back. There's a whole mortgage that no one will be if I am jobless. I am not sociable and doesn't have a loud personality, so there's a lot of jobs I feel like I wouldn't be suited for and I get overlooked often. Even trying to switch to different fields hasn't been working.

Thank you for the most helpful video I have seen on decluttering books. I am retiring in 4 months and half my very extensive library (at least 4000 books) is at my work place; it will not fit into my home so I am facing a very major declutter! Thank you for your thoughts.

I recommend getting a Little Free Library, and stocking other LFLs with the books. Being a LFL steward is a fun way to meet neighbors. If you can't put up a permanent LFL, you can put up a movable one that might work. And maybe you can leave a bookshelf of books in your workplace break area and establish a Leave One, Take One exchange. I enjoyed that sharing with co-workers in one workplace. Enjoy your retirement! As for books you want to keep, consider getting ebooks, or see if your local library has them. You will feel reassured that those favorites are still available to you.

These were great questions to ask. Some part of me knows that “when in doubt, throw out,” but when we declutter we really are poking at our relationship with our objects and with ourselves. That’s why know what to ask of yourself is so helpful. I really appreciate it.

I left my corp job at the end of 2022. Best decision I’ve ever made. All of 2022 I was sick nonstop. 2023 I never got sick, not ever ONCE! Sniffles here and there that went away but that was it. My aura is happy. I’m happy. I’m loving life. I have a makeup business. I also got back to KZbin and I just can’t express how happy I am. I’m not even making the money I was making at that job, yet! I plan to make double and triple that. Cheers to the dreamers and believers. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

It is not just “creatives” who hate the corporate world. Generally, a subset of PEOPLE hate the corporate world - even software developers, analysts, accountants, engineers. Lots of people find that it is a dumb stupid game where basically you spend your life filling in little squares - sort of like the work they do in the series “Severance”. Just wanted to point that out - thank you for your video!! Glad you had the guts to do it.

I can relate to this so much... thank you so much for sharing. I also have been struggling with Architecture since my first internship but just told myself to bite the bullet and "try it out for a little longer, maybe it'll be better". Its been 10 years now and I feel my depression and anxiety is just growing by the day. I also grew up in hong kong but moved back to North America and one of my biggest drawbacks of quitting my career is how would my friends and family view me when i go back to HK since everyone put their careers on a pedestal. But honestly, you're right, who fucking cares. I think it's time for me to move on...and to love myself a little better!

This was very heart felt to me. I work at outsourcing at a lawfirm 10 yrs. And I literally feel as I loose myself each day. They don't pay living wages and they expect you to do other jobs outside the perview of job description. Its taking everything for me to just say screw it and praying that things change soon.

We all have different challenges. My industry changes too much. SO I am rolling my eyes at the AI stuff. Yeah, more unnecessary changes so I have to work on a million "emergency" projects. Also there isn't progression anymore, not only because older people don't retire, but the ethics of older people never retiring when they are financially set, when there are so many younger people who are broke and whose lives are old hold - that is starting to bother me. Especially when said people are stuck in the past

I NEVER comment on videos. But oh boy does this hit so close to home…I just left a career just like yours. My career was thriving but the employer was so toxic. I stuck it out for almost 5 years and for the last two years, it has been the hardest. My advice is if you are even thinking about changing your life direction, DO IT!!! I am now changing directions and starting my own business. Time is the scarcest of resources and it is TIME for me use it wisely!! Loved your video and everything you said! ❤
