It's so cool, seeing all the creatives in this comment section, resonating with what you are saying! Let's be intentional with what we consume and conscoius how and where we create!

You can learn alot from doing this but it isn't the right exercise for everyone. Beginners should focus on the composition and the many separate parts. Nailing the actual production is for more advanced musicians. A beginner could burn a week trying to remake one song. Also it would help to share how long you actually spent doing this.

Good video! Felt the same in a very different context. I am currently doing a semester abroad and at the beginning i felt like every weekend i need to travel, see a new city or go partying. Didn't realize that it was draining me and now I just feel like i want to take time for myself so I can focus on things i really matter to me - writing my thesis and making music

It is good to know when to call quits. I 100% think that you should do stuff as long you enjoy it (unless it is REALLY mandatory). I have struggled with this myself too in the past. It makes stuff so much more enjoyable when you know you can stop any given time :D Makes starting new things more easier too!

As always, I appreciate your perspective. I would add that it’s hard to hand off a project to collaborators when it’s so close to the end. I have an EP 5+ years in the making, and I finally had to let my bandmates take it over to get it over that final hump.

Bro SAME Ive been working on some songs for months and haven't alllowed myself to focus on anything else for so long. Sometimes you need to take control and not allow yourself to be controlled by sunken cost value. It is hard, however, to discern between it being sunken cost value or just procrastionation/laziness. I feel like when doing music you do gotta force it sometimes to get to the finish line. I usually know, however, that I am forcing it too much when it feels so forced that it takes away all the joy, and that's when I stop and focus on something else.

Same. I abandon books that don’t hold my attention. Life’s too short. I’m also more aware of how Enthusiasm wanes and then the monotonous grind needs to take over on any long endeavour. Often I’ll wait until the ‘starting excitement’ has dissipated before setting myself a long goal. Dopamine hits are responsible for a lot of my regretful purchases in life. Regarding those weekly uploads: better to post when you have motivation. We’ll wait. 😀👍

100% I feel this top, funnily enoughz with a book about last year i just stopped and never finsihed it because I have to finish it before anything else. This also happens alot to me as a producer where i hate not being able to finish songs... And actually I've used this methord of the thinking about you as another person.. IT HELPS ALOT! also excited to see the future of this channel 🤌🔥💯

For the not too musically inclined, it helps to have a program like Samplab or Ableton to do Audio to Midi conversions, like if you want to figure out what voicings they are using for the chords or baselines and melodies.

i'd love if you didn't cut your videos. they are so cool and i would love to watch the whole thing, every second of it, it would help so much more, because i'm a beginner and don't understand how exactly or why you do certain things.

Can i ask you a question? For someone who has never made a song in his life, i just dabbled a bit on the guitar and learnt a few songs, I want to make my own songs but i don't know anything about it, how do you recommend i do that? Amazing Video by the way 👏 keep it up!

transcription and improv really helps you develop your musical ear more as well, and the satisfaction that comes out of being resourceful with the basics even if ur no instrumental whiz really motivates you from time to time to just keep on practicing. love this vid a lot too thank u camus!!

It’s funny as a producer that samples and plays it’s all relative. Music Theory is something that’s needed to tap into the human psyche. Once I practiced keys it made my music ten times better. Mind u I still sample just not as much. Knowledge mixed with experimentation is what makes hits. Not a formula. It’s all feeling.
