I bought my first orchid about 4 years ago, found your videos, and since then i have built my collection to about 40 orchids, with many varieties! I am obsessed, I have started growing most of my orchids in either self watering pots or no drainage pots, and my phalaenopsis orchids absolutely love it, I only use sphagnum moss and water it to just have a little bit of pooling at the bottom, then i leave it to dry it for about a week or two depending on the season before i water again, and since doing this my orchids have been thriving! I managed to finally get some rescue orchids to bloom for the first time after three years! Thank you for your very helpful videos!

I'd love to know what your climate is. :)
@tashacombrinck6592 ай бұрын
@@teresabrockett7525 summers are hot between 30 and 38 degrees celcius, and quite dry until the raining season starts, then the humidity kicks in, thats usually late summer, and winters are medium temperature, generally around 15 to 20 degrees celcius, sometimes it goes colder but only for a few days and the winters are generally very dry

@tashacombrinck659 Thanks. I live in Maine, USA, so it's a Very different climate than Miss Orchid Girl. I've learned a ton on here, but between my climate and the watering curve, I struggle. 😫

@@teresabrockett7525 oh yeah i dont know Maine's climate, I live in South Africa, but what i have learned over the last few years growing orchids, is that you cant follow exactly what other people do, you have to try and understand your orchids and their needs and compare it with your environment, try out some different combinations of mediums and watering methods and see what gives you the best results, ive lost quite a few orchids with trial and error, but i finally figured out what works best for me, i still struggle with a few that just doesnt do well where i am, its either not cold enough in winters or too hot in summer, but im sure you can figure it out! just dont give up, orchids are amazing!

I found your video series after I was given an orchid in April. Since then I've acquired 2 more orchids and feel much more able to keep them going. I'm looking forward to them ... hopefully ... flowering again in the fall.

I want to thank you so much for all your informative videos. I am a beginner that acquired/rescued/saved four orchids from a lady that didn't want them anymore. I didn't think i was a plant guy but love a challenge. Anyway, repotted the kids and all have new growth. One had no roots at all after the big trim. But, I made a greenhouse out of a water jug and got some moss from the bush and guess what? I got the leaves to rehydrate and i not have new little root bumps. Just sharing a success story and letting you know that your hard work and advice works.

My friend just repotted his phalaenopsis in a no drainage pot and I was curious how it would do without the usual aeration. So glad this video dropped so conveniently and I definitely learned a lot! :)

I also was experimenting with one of my daisy chains in a drainless bowl. It is doing better than the one I have in a flower pot with drainage. I don't water my orchids as much as I should and so it helped to keep it from getting too dry in between waterings. My phals don't mind that I don't water them for up to 10 days but the bulbos need more water. Now I know I am not the only one. I am thinking of putting my other one in drainless because it is getting too dehydrated.

Hi Danny! I love your videos and I'm always picking up new ways of doing things from you. You are very helpful indeed, especially to someone who is restarting an orchid collection after many years. :) I absolutely adore that beautiful flowering Bulbophyllum in your video and I hope you can tell me what it is. I've not grown Bulbophyllums, but that one has me wanting to know more about them. Thanks for any help you can give me!

Hi Danny. I have a question that is completely off the subject. My phalaenopsis has a beautiful little keiki, but it recently developed a small bump on one of the leaves. Just a little pointed bump. Do you have any idea what this could be? Thank you ❤

I bought a orchid and after watching you, I removed the died roots, so it's now dormant (resting) about how long before I see it branch out to again flower or will I ? Poor thing I had to cut away most of its roots.Please I need to know as I got my orchid as a reminder to my mother.

No matter what I try, my ultimate Orchid (and other houseplants) problem is my watering schedule here in Maine. I just can't seem to get it right!😢
@brooksequine76212 ай бұрын
I went through that in Arizona ... I know the pain ! Right now , I'm sticking to normal plants until I'm in a stable living situation . Then I may try again .

pleeease don't use metal😢 rust can influence the ph-level of the potting medium. i've made this mistake once with a carnivorous plant and it died in just weeks (i have like 20 more carnivorous plants in plastic pots and they're doing well)

I like this technique for my oncidium type orchids which are always thirsty. Since I switched them to no drainage pots they are THRIVING! Btw, sent you a dm on instagram.
