I love how you often mention self care in your art practice. I think for many of us it goes out the window with this drive to produce more. I love your tips in that area and it helps me to be mindful too. It’s a struggle;) Love the studio!

It's an ongoing process for me. It's quite easy to slip back into the mindset of being "busy". This new studio has a really relaxing vibe. I feel like the previous owner was big on self care and it's embedded into the environment. My perspective feels different here and I really love it.

Admin consumes my life. I find I do best when I have dedicated art days. I did try doing art in the morning and admin in the afternoon, but I found myself getting in too late to do art! I have a mixed business: art, youtube, and vintage. The vintage business consumes most of my time.

Self-care...wow, your focus on this is exactly where I'm at right now in life. Thank you for showing everyone the importance of self-care, and that it CAN be incorporated in every day, right along with all the other things we love to do, and need to do. Love your new studio space, and the reminders that nothing will ever be exactly perfect, but that we can find contentment from within ourselves if we just let it be. I'm looking forward to learning new artistic adventures with you.

This is great advice which I intend to follow. I have been through difficult times lately looking after my ageing mother and have stopped doing art for a while until I sorted things out for her. Now I feel ready to start again, and a jelly plate seems to be a good idea to start with as I intend to do collage work. Like yourself, I must take the time to also look after myself. Thank you for sharing.

I love your new art space, the big windows bringing in so much light and that lovely garden. Nothing tastes better than fresh organic produce straight from the ground! That’s a great easel, I think if you can work comfortably on that and be able to keep the sink space it could be perfect (personally speaking because I like everything at hand in one space, if I have to go anywhere else to do something like washing brushes etc, it interrupts the flow and I get distracted). When you said about before, getting up, not eating or drinking and getting stuck into your work at home before realising you are thirsty and hungry, I do this too. It’s weird when we work from home and have it all there but we don’t think, it’s not until you think about actually going out to work that you remember to eat and take a lunch and a drink because you don’t have it on hand, so why do we not do that when we have the convenience of working from home? I think most of us tend to do this. So I think that now you have a designated studio separate from the house it’s working better for you for self care. It looks and sounds so idyllic and I’m so happy for you. Also, most everything you said I can actually relate to, so thank you for this video. I wish you joy and fun in your new creative space.

As I write this, I'm both watching you as well listening to the choice of words of your music. Isn't it remarkable all the inner insights, growth, and all-round transformations that can take place by moving into an environment that's so inspiring? I love all your new ideas and your sense of bringing freshness into your art and life. And thanks especially for sharing yourself. Hi Laura. Great content as always. Rich is amazing with his camera skills. One tip I've seen people use to help secure an easel is to place a big bag of rice or something weighty on the base. You can put a piece of wood across the base and place the bag of rice on it or drape an XL bag of rice there. I hope that makes sense xo

Beautiful space & I'm excited about your gardens! I love that you decided to keep the sink space. You definitely need a sink in your creative area. If you don't like it, maybe change the cabinet stand of the sink to something more modern or up to date. Possibly even making the sink space smaller if you run into the situation of needing more floor space or storage area. This cottage is fabulous! I cannot wait to see more! P.S. Kudos to Mr. Richie for excellent camera work, he's got great skills! 👏🤘

Thanks Linda! I'm still getting a feel for the space and I like having the sink there for now. I will wait and see how my work evolves as I a not sure how much work I will be doing on canvas v paper. We will make some upgrades to the studio in time, but for now it just delights me to have my own space with such beautiful gardens to look out on. Thanks for mentioning Richie, he did such a wonderful job with this video. I'm thrilled with how it came together.

It is good to see you on camera again!!! Missed you, but totally understand. So glad to see in your new space. It's lovely. I love the windows the most. Heavenly scenery... It sounds like you've got a handle on taking more time to care for your spirit with trying to live a more mindful life. I totally agree with that mission. I'm on the same track. About the gelli printing. I became a little crazed with for awhile, but I'm more reasonable about it now. I'm still love trying my watercolor abstracts. Acrylics are next on my list. By the way, I took your advice on going back to some of classes and gained a lot of inspiration again. Thank you for everything you do to encourage all of us out here on our art journeys❤

Hi Laura I love your work I wish I had a studio space. Unfortunately I only have a tiny little space in my dining room but the main thing I wanted to ask you is could you give us a bit more detail on how to use the Gelli plate..e.g. how to apply paint ..you seem to have two colours and some of the pieces . How do you do that ?……do you have to wait a long time before you peel the paper off or should you do it straight away just little things like that as I’ve never done Gelli printing before and I’ve just ordered one.. thank you in advance. I love all of your videos. I haven’t seen all of them but I’m binge watching them at the moment.😅🙏💕

Thanks for the lovely comment. It's probably a bit too hard to go into in a comment, as there are quite a few tips and tricks when using a gelli plate. I hope to have a video and possibly a course soon on gelli printing so stay tuned for that! In the meantime, be sure to head over to the website of the brand of gelli plate that you purchased, as they most likely have some great tips for getting started.
