Rob, this is a wonderful collage of the deep experiences, suffering and painful genius of Bill's life.

Every time I thnk about September 1980, I remember Bill and what a loss his death was to the jazz piano repertoire. I saw him live on two occasions and was blown away. Bill"s Goodbye Mr. Evans is so moving that I remember those performances vivedly. Thank you, Bill, for your beautiful rendition. I love it.

What pity there are no subtitles as Miles' throat disease made it impossible to get the sense of what he was ssying. I had to abandon this contribution because I couldn't understand a single word.

His melodic phrases combined with his harmony result in beauty. Add to that a bass and drums that fit together in an unbeatable way, and we are in the presence of an unrivaled trio.

Always nice to hear someone give credit where credit is due. I always felt that the harmonic landscape of Kind of Blue was Bill Evans playing, so nice to see Miles say it. Miles was an interesting person. He was not the best player, but he was conceptually brilliant, a great producer and a fantastic leader. To have Miles, Coltrane and Evans working together is unbelievable. Coltrane and Evans of course were too great to not have their own group. So in the 60s we got Miles Davies second great quintet, John Coltrane Quartet and Bill Evans Trio. What a gift to the world.

Bill Evans was actually composer of 2 of the songs Miles took credit for on Kind of Blue--which Bill, who wrote he liner notes, was OK with. Closer to 1990, Miles said Bill was his "all time favorite pianist," comparing his piano touch to "a cool mountain stream, its droplets sparkling in the sunrise."

Whereas Miles has a reputation for being the wild beast of jazz, his enormous sensitivity always made him a kind of "alter-ego" to Bill Evans.

Kind of Blue was not my first Miles Davis album but is probably my favorite. Bill Evans was a big part of it.
