I visited Greatbase earlier this year and had an amazing educational week. My personality type came out as ISFP, I really thought I was an INFP but all answers were as S and not N.

Isn't it a combination of entranement and knowing how much space you need for the stroke itself? It feels like heavy movement messes with your spatial perception to the point where it's difficult to know where you're going to end up to hit the stroke or how to overcome the momentum of the movement of the whole body to hit a forward moving stroke.
@JeffLewistennis20 күн бұрын
@@SolidFundamentalBase I thinks it's two separate issues. People get too close to the ball just because it feels good. You can see it better. You feel like you have more control when it's closer in. I always go back to my beginners to see where subtle advanced problems come from. A beginner will choke up on the racquet and stand right in front of the path of the ball.

Thanks, Jeff. As far as I know you are the very first one to speak of MB personality profiles and how it relates to tennis. I can totally see this! INFP-you worked with me so you may be able to see it. I struggle to get out of my head, got a good local coach and he knows my tendencies. Focus on reaching up, what you want vs worrying about what you don’t want. That’s a good life lesson as well as a tennis lesson.

I think the radar gun was not placed correctly, since the fundamentals look good to me. A little bit more pronation and your serve should get a few more mph. My technique sometimes looks a bit sloppy but I usually average around 100 mph between my first and second serves. Your serve doesn’t look that much slower so I would think that the placement of the speed gun wasn’t 100% correct.

Anything ring true from the vid that you might need to work on?
@whodefanАй бұрын
Perhaps if beginners were taught how to volley and hit overheads first and groundstrokes later, they could achieve 4.0 level faster. Reason being, almost all 3.5 players (talking strictly about singles players) cannot finish at the net while simultaneously implement the lob as an effective strategy to win. If you takeaway the lob from a 3.5 player, you will almost always beat them. You can have a very average forehand and backhand but if you arm a 3.5 pusher with consistent volleys and overheads they will become 4.0 without a doubt.

I would say your sweep and pivot into the front leg is weak and the grip you have is holding you back from a proper position. I would consider going 1/8 inch more western on the grip and think about leaning into the direct you plan to hit the ball. Once you master that you can start to hide it

You can “miss” short. A short ball against a solid player especially when you are out of position is a low percentage shot wrt to the end result.

Interesting stat! I wonder if the ratio of deep errors to other errors have any effect on the win rate, i.e. is the win rate higher if that ratio is 3:1 vs 4:1 vs 5:1?
@JeffLewistennisАй бұрын
Would be a good stat to know. Generally I think the stat would remain the same at the pro level. But definitely at lower level tennis I think it would be apparent.

I've found having a portable backboard is indispensable. I regularly hit on mine to work on my strokes. I also purchased 4 backboards similar to the Ksports backboard directly from China a few years ago for our high school teams. Our seasons in Utah are short and we spend a lot of time training indoors in the gym during inclement weather. I also love the TopSpin Pro and I use it with all my students.
