The dealer usually tries to get the count over 15 if they see a 6 laid. That's if they don't have a 9. Definitely a good trap but doesn't work all the time and in every hand. Especially trash hands that have good pegging cards. Yeah in general this would be a very good pegging trap.
@HuddleAroundGamesКүн бұрын
Not every time, no. But it works more often than I thought it would.

I've been trying to find an online tutorial that shows a portion of a game with real cards. I had such hope at the beginning when you held up a wooden cribbage board. The fast talking concerned me, but i thought that once play started, you'd slow down. And then the computer game came on. Honestly, I'd watch for an hour if it would mean some visual learning in real time, looking at hands, listening to the thought process of why you chose to discard which cards at the beginning, etc. Why is no one teaching that? You clearly know the game, is going in depth on the basics a possibility?
@HuddleAroundGames3 күн бұрын
It’s so hard to show everything in a slower way. I do go into more detail in my other videos on the playlist. And if you watch other gameplay videos on my channel, you’ll pick up stuff eventually.

OK so I get that all the super hands break down into the simple pairs and runs that are embedded in the hand. So, why don't you get to count a run of 4 as 4pts for the simple run of four but also add 3 points for each of the 2 runs of 3 embedded in the run of 4? For example A234 would count as the simple run of 4 for 4 points, but the hand also has an A23 run of 3 for 3 points plus a 234 run of 3 for another 3 points? I would have guessed that hand with A234 gets 10 points total using that logic.
@stephencasey188213 күн бұрын
I was thinking the same,I'm just a beginner so not sure if that applies??
@HuddleAroundGames6 күн бұрын
Because it the run of four contains the run of three inside it. You’re not using any new cards when you try to break it up like that.

Im new to cribbage,if i have 2 3 4 5,is that a run of 2 3 &4 (3 points)and a run of 3 4 &5(3 points) and a run of 2 3 4 &5 (4 points)???
@HuddleAroundGames6 күн бұрын
No, one run of 4 cards.

My brother came up with an improved three player variant that gives everyone better hands. Deal 6 cards to each player and one to your crib. Everyone puts one card in the crib and one card in the “trash”, which is a separate pile that can get stashed under the deck after the cut. The advantage of this approach is that with 6 cards to choose from you get the same quality hands as in a two player game. The quality of the crib does go down, since you can only influence 1/4th of it, and the non-dealer players can stuff a good card that doesn’t work with their hand in the trash. An interesting meta game evolves with what card to put in the crib. If everyone has the same idea what the worst card is, that group-think can lead to three of a kind. We had more sets of three kings than luck would dictate before we realized what was going on.

That sound interesting. I’ll have to give it a shot at home!

@HuddleAroundGames6 күн бұрын
2-6-7 for fifteen. 2-3-4-6 for fifteen. Run of three 2-3-4. If you go 6-7-2 for fifteen it’s the same as the first one.

The reason three of a kind is worth 6 is because it's actually three pairs. One of things that beginners need to know is that as long as one card in a combination is new it's a different combination.

I’ve played cribbage 40 yrs and the most common practice is to count 15s then pairs then runs then nobs. I guess I can see counting the same way every time regardless of the order but most any experienced player will count 15-pair-run-nobs.

There’s a mathy KZbin channel called numberphile, they did a shuffling effectiveness video on different kinds of shuffles. For the riffle shuffle you need to do it a few times 2-7 (can’t remember) to get a completely original deck. In order to get the same effectiveness in the overhand shuffle, you’d have to complete (guess how many) over hand shuffles… 10,000!

You've been playing since you were 5. You left a lot out of your explanation because it's like muscle memory to you and questions that a beginner would have do not occur to you. You did not explain how to add up the numbers nor how the players interact in adding the numbers per hand. Nothing. What??!! You need to go through a more thorough play by play as if you were teaching someone from another planet. This did not help me and I have to play cribbage with a 95 year old expert tomorrow.

Wondering why the HM text said a 1 in 12 chance of 16 or more when it should be a 1 in 13? It said in the hand, so cutting a J might give the opponent his heels to offset the net score, but that is not part of the hand, I would think. Perhaps because his heels would be automatic, the algorithm uses it in the calc? I guess if you are counting on a cut J for extra score and you are not the dealer, you should always remember to subtract heels from net score. (In this case, a double-double 3 card run would be worth it.)
@HuddleAroundGames4 ай бұрын
Not sure exactly. It depends on the algorithm used. A good question for the creator!
@haines964 ай бұрын
Nice video. Why was Q,Q a better discard than 10,10? Chart appeared to indicate it was a better net score because of the crib. I guess for the crib viewed in isolation maybe there are a few more run discards likely...?
@HuddleAroundGames4 ай бұрын
That’s it, I believe. If you toss QQ, your losing combos (bc we don’t want to give points) with it come from 5, 10, J, Q, and King. The ten only adds value if used with a Jack for the run. AND we know where two of the tens are. In the 10-10 toss, points are more easily made from 5, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, and K. You can get runs on either side. Overall, slightly more cards and opportunities.
