What if you use aftermarket cabin filter that doesn’t have arrows just the part number
@friendlymechanic97782 күн бұрын
It would depend on the filter. I can’t say for certain because they can all be made differently. But I would go with the words reading right side up. It’s not a big deal if it’s upside down. The filter will still trap debris.

Would bad sensor tweak the steering wheel so it’s not centered?
@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
No it would most likely be how the shaft was re-installed. Your other comment said you replaced the tie rods inner and outer. If you detached the steering shaft from the rack go back there and check if the alignment marks on the steering shaft and the rack are on the 0 position. look for an arrow or some indicator showing the 0 position or straight ahead position

Quick question I replaced my UCA LCA inner/outer ties rod my steering wheel might of moved In The process after I was done I test drove and stabilitrak light came on and I took it to alignment and they said they can get wheel straight
@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
hmmm did you detach the steering shaft from the steering column either inside the vehicle or outside where it attaches to the rack? If so I would go there and make sure the alignment marks are on point. If they can't get the wheels straight with the alignment that might be the issue.

I have yet to find the answer BUT ... is the timing chain tensioner easy to replace? Mine chain sounds like it has play and removing this cover reveals the chain tensioner inside but not sure if it's easy to replace. Any ideas guys?

@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
You may have gotten lucky when you turned off the car the position of the eccentric shaft may have been in just the right spot for it to come off without any issue. This is usually not the case. I would have to look up the torque spec on those little screws but if I had to guess they are somewhere between 8-10 NM. If you bottom them out and do a 1/8 to 1/4 turn more (just snug) you will be good.

Toyota did not design this properly as these springs all have a propensity to fall off. Toyota seems to have a particularly challenged fuel filler door group, with flimsy designs like this so prone to failure on all their RAV4s.
@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
I agree the design could be better. Im just glad the repair is quick and cheap. 👍🏼
@dubmob1512 күн бұрын
@@friendlymechanic9778 on the ones that failed, is it from the spring assembly falling off completely or from the retaining clips fracturing? On the one I had, it apparently flung off to parts unknown, leaving no evidence as to how it broke. Owners should be sure whenever they fill up to make sure it requires at least a bit of a push to latch closed, otherwise they'll be in for a surprise next time they need to fill up.

I Heard from somebody that when installing a new battery in a Modern 5th gen Rav4 you need a scan tool to register the new battery into your cars computer or it may overcharge your new battery thinking that it is the old one that was going bad.
@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
Before replacing the battery I checked the repair manual and I did not read anything on registering the battery for this generation RAV4. Double checked the repair instructions in case I may have missed something but nothing is mentioned. I checked with other sources and there is no mention for battery registration. For BMW's battery registration is a must otherwise you will have issues like the ones you mentioned. It has been a month since replacement and there are no electrical issues and the car has been driving normal. If I find anything else I will update the comment. Hope this clears it up for you 👍🏼

This is leaking on my 2019 bmw x3 at 75k miles. I’ve already replaced turbo coolant return line and water pump in the past 10k miles and now this. When I do decide to do it I will be removing the intake and replacing the plastic flange that connects to the block and also replace the oil filter housing to aluminum one. I personally would rather remove the intake then de with the dme and all those wires, that seems like a nightmare and probably hardest part of this job. I love my bmw but it’s one coolant leak after another.
@friendlymechanic97785 күн бұрын
I hear you on the coolant leaks. Too many I see coming in with all the coolant leaks you just mentioned. I have also seen the radiator leaking and turbo coolant feed line leaking, unfortunately also very possible for your G01. It's quite difficult to remove the intake manifold without removing the DME and getting all the wires out of the way. I have not tried that before but I already know that will be harder than just removing the DME. When you get around to replacing it replace the intake manifold gaskets and do an oil change as well. The coolant drains into the oil passage at the oil filter housing and sits inside the oil pan. no way around that so the oil needs to be drained out. The new oil filter housing OEM comes with a new filter but not sure about the aftermarket ones so double check that. Let me know if you need more info or help with that job and good luck.
@RKSAINT5 күн бұрын
@ wow I didn’t even think about coolant going into the oil pan. I’ve drained the coolant before on my car but I’ve only been able to get about a gallon at most. I was planning on changing the oil anyways but now I need to be extra careful to try and get as little in the engine oil. I’ve seen people remove the oil filter housing by just taking apart the dme so I may try that first and if it doesn’t work out I’ll end up having to remove the intake. Also I’ve been reading on some forums with people having blown head gasket issues on these engines. Is that a common occurrence? If that’s the case I’m selling this car immediately because I can’t replace head gasket in my garage nor do I have the skills to do such a job.
@friendlymechanic97784 күн бұрын
The coolant only goes into the pan when the oil filter housing is removed. If you just drain some coolant from say the radiator or a coolant hose it won’t go into the oil pan. A head gasket can go bad on any engine but this is not a common occurrence on the B engines.

Whats an "E" brake?. Its a purely mechanically operated handbrake. Its also not "Emery cloth". Its a scouring pad. Emery cloth is heavy duty sandpaper. I would use wire wool and brake cleaner to clean the pins. I would also use a brush to clean the inside of the calipers and cylinders not a rag. I would also clean the wheel inside and out before fitting it. The drivers side disc looks quite scored so I would have replaced the discs too as well as the pins and clip. A very thorough and carefully executed job though and very clear images too 👍

Thanks for sharing it did save me a lot. doing this on a Honda Crv 2019 with the same engine. Man I did struggle. The engine bay layout is different so I had a difficult time removing the valve cover it was tight the harness that had the coils I could not twist all the way or tuck away I had additional wires needed to remove which I did not because they were linked to the alternator. So that was one thing and another I broke a bolt inside when tighting "Screwed up big time" I didn't have a torque wrench so in the end I managed to take the bolt out and also Find a replacement ( was not easy ) I did end up with micro scratches on the head. Dots scratches I don't know if that's going cause me problems in the long run but their so tiny that I did not bother to layer it with RT. I also used a small wrench to torque the bolts I did not have a torque wrench. It was a challenge. especially when it's not the same car and you don't have the right tools for the Job. I wanted to ask do these engines require valve adjustment?

STOP. Do not follow these instructions unless you want a new rattle as you're driving down the road. The Ford Explorer has two white pins holding the far left and right ends of the glove box firmly. You must reach under the glove box, find the white tabs on the pins and push the left one to the right and the right one to the left until they clear. I don't think you have to completely remove them, simply move them until they no longer impede removal of the glove box. Clearly, both pins were broken off and removed from this vehicle, which may cause the glove box to rattle when driving.

My ignition coil won’t seat all the way , can anyone help with this issue? I’ve changed all the coils and they’re all the same but for some reason one just won’t go all the way in
@friendlymechanic977816 күн бұрын
Look at the inside of the coil where the spark plug goes in and see if something is inside obstructing the spark plug from fully seating. Compare the spark plug to other spark plugs and make sure they are the same. Also check if the ignition coil that does not fit, fits onto another spark plug. You may find the answer if you try all these options.
