Toyota RAV4 Fuel Door Won't Open 2019-2021

In this video I will show you how to open the fuel door when the latch doesn't work and how to fix it on a 2019 Toyota Rav4.

This is a combo kit comes with a small Philips screwdriver. We will only need the flathead but this is the best value for the price

If you don't have someone to hold it up while you pop it open, you can tuck a piece of duct tap under the lever, pull it up, and tape it in the position you need, then go and pop the door open with your key (worked for me, as I was driving alone)

Great Video, been trying to figure out why my door wouldn't open and all the other videos i found focused on the lock mechanism which i knew was fine on mine so finding this really helped me and I've now been able to fix my fuel door with your help thanks!

You might want to add a dab of glue to retain the spring, if it's prone to falling off, assuming they haven't corrected it with a different part from what was originally installed at the factory. Instead of buying another spring that may get lost again, a piece of spongy high density foam can be placed at the hinge to serve the same purpose.

Toyota did not design this properly as these springs all have a propensity to fall off. Toyota seems to have a particularly challenged fuel filler door group, with flimsy designs like this so prone to failure on all their RAV4s.

I agree the design could be better. Im just glad the repair is quick and cheap. 👍🏼

@@friendlymechanic9778 on the ones that failed, is it from the spring assembly falling off completely or from the retaining clips fracturing? On the one I had, it apparently flung off to parts unknown, leaving no evidence as to how it broke. Owners should be sure whenever they fill up to make sure it requires at least a bit of a push to latch closed, otherwise they'll be in for a surprise next time they need to fill up.
