You never told us what the silver box was and why it was supposed to be a treat? It wasn't. It was pretty horrible, I'm afraid to say. 😞

What was the knob on the right side? Was each AC cord moded to the modern spec? Thank you

Can James repair them ?? ( I know he can sort most synths but the PPG is a bit "special" as I'm sure you know.)

Hi, why does it say sellctor instead of selector? Is it a rare misspelling? Otherwise very nice stund 👍🏻

I have the FH36, for the money it's a great sounding unit. Not very versatile like some others but it has a low noise floor and really pleasant long warm verb. Sensitivity seems to have dual function for both input and output, I assume sort of like dwell seems to control amount of signal applied by varying impedance. If you overdrive it on the input it creates some crazy sounds.

Works for vocals?? I am thinking of bying
@BlackDecibelMusic

@ yes works for vocals very natural and pleasant. Keep in mind that sometimes spring verb can resonate if vocal hits a specific frequency. So like any analog verb it will ‘sing’ on that frequency, like a high pitch note tail. Doesn’t happen often but it can depending on the material of any source really not just vocal.

Thanks for a very helpful video. I wasn't too familiar with the 501 but this made my ears happy in ways the others didn't.

I think it say's 'Pete Slinger' with the E rubbed out. As in just one person.. maybe a musician or a sound tech from back in the day...

The trick is to move the recording head longer away from the replay heads, to get those huge spacious echos. Mine has two rec heads, so I can choose between standard and Floyd mode.

anyone got any idea what he's using to loop the drums? he's using a korg midi controller to do the looping but that surely must be sent to an unidentified looper? anyone know what it is?

The VCS3 for wah and phase effects is also common in songs, such as "No Quarter" by Led Zeppelin, where John Paul Jones played a Hohner Electra piano connected to a VCS3 for phasing effects (he also used the VCS3 for sounds in the track too). Nowadays, you can do that with any other phaser pedal, but using a giant effects unit like the VCS3 just feels even better

Isn’t switching from the heads and all the analog speed up/down kind of part of the charm? Did they address that for the x3?

Does anyone remember a device, similar in function to this but wider & more console/mixer shaped (vaguely recall it had a lid)? Might have been an MTI as the typeface seems familiar. Had one as a teenager, but couldn't do much with it 'cos the ports were a mystery. No idea what happened to it, mum probably chucked it out..
