I walked away from PoE years ago. I'm back for PoE2 and I have to say you are sorely missed. I'm the kind of player that needs some hand holding in understanding builds and you were great at that. While other streamers are good, I don't think there is anyone around that focuses on new players, understanding the game basics, and taking the time in their youtube builds that deep dive "why" you should do things. "You are sorely missed"

I'm level 90 gemling and can barely clear Tier 15 maps, I have 4 of 6 done. I have way more expensive stuff than you and I accomplish much less. Needing to reapply shock does slow down boss fights. I might add a flame wall. I'm not using the turret/ballista/totem or fragmentation rounds anymore. I'm running 3 Dragons helmet, so I have morior invictus and grim feast. Severely overcapping armour and evasion has diminishing returns and high opportunity cost. With Invictus chest and 3 dragons helmet I had extra spirit and wanted the energy shield to do something. So now the 350 ES is topped off at 700 constantly, not sure if it does anything good. If I use flame wall I'll need to bring back plasma blast so explosive shot can still clear. Then I won't need 3 dragons anymore, or I can try it both ways. I can keep voltaic mark and conductivity curse. Single button mapping and piano playing against bosses. Mark, plasma blast shock, flame walls, curse, shockburst rounds, emergency reload, flame walls, curse, more shockburst. Or I could swap 3 dragons for blueflame bracers and freeze for clear with herald of ice instead of thunder, then flame contributes to freeze instead of ignite, I wonder if the stormfire support gem still works with blueflame bracers and flame wall. I have 3 new things to try in the next 3 maps.

problems with this game is getting gear …. it’s ALL about the gear or more important stats you get on your gear if your not lucky on stat rolls than your pretty much boned in end game

how do we level this build?

Hey man. Appreciate the guide. I’m trying it on HC SSF. Is there any advice/suggestions/things you would do differently for a HC SSF version

Although I'm not using Glacial bolt, I'm on a witch hunter and will use your advice to bolster my defence. Been having fun with the Explosive Shot/Shockburst/Three Dragon setup. Only done 3 trials so far for Culling Strike/Zealous Inquisition and the first concentration node but will swap the concentration mechanic for Sorcery Ward as I'm keeping bosses frozen anyway. Also added the unique gloves which grant Decimating Strike, so i have a pseudo 5th ascendacy once I'm done with the last trial.

FYI to anyone following the mobalytics guide, he mentions quality is important on your Glacial Bolt skill gem, however this skill does not benefit from quality -at all-. Please save your gem upgrade currency for other skills. You can verify this by right clicking the gem upgrade as if you were going to upgrade the skill, and hold Alt while hovering over the skill.

You have explained things from the absolute beginners perspective assuming we know literally nothing about the game. Ive played many hours of POE1 and POE2 and I still never understood currencies the way you explained it. Explaining the real basics as we are a 5yo listening was a breakthrough for me. i don't mess with that flamecloak tech at all. i just use ghostwrithe and stack strength and go to the %es nodes. looks like you only have 3-4k ehp vs physical hits. but i'm sitting at 9k es.

Glacial Bolt is great at clearing ads but really struggles in lategame bosses. It just doesn't do enough damage that's why you are using Lightning skills to focus on bossing part. In this case I would say it's just better to play with Lightning skills (such as Galvanic Shards) since the passive skill tree doesn't benefit Cold build at all for Mercenary.

How do you get additional 2 more bolts on glacial bolts?

Still think galvanic shard, herald of ash and shock burst is superior! With a weapon swap to stormcaller arrow / voltaic mark on bosses is the best build so far. I melt everything with just galvanic shards and the proc of HoA when clearing t15+. Winddancer and herald of Ash on as well. Yet to find a better one.

Playing similar build since start, wanna share some thoughts: 1. Didnt see thin ice support for glacier shot (makes walls to explore much more easily, helps to clear breaches for example just with ice shot), 2. Tested by myself concentration points vs culling strike tree ascrndancy points, and culling seems better for mapping, i didn't use ward at all. 3. Rail shot on bosses kinda meh, so i"m now trying to find the way to shock bosses 4. I'm using 2 crossbow as well, but 1st one is for fragments shot, 2nd is for walls, so i can shot wall+ fragments very fast, same setup is for railgun + single target shots. Its very notable to take 3 weapon swap speed points as well, huge difference 5. On passive tree didn't see aoe, what is really good for this build, not only aoe damage. 6. Don't sleep on reload crossbow speed nodes, u can take it on jewels. And wanna add one more thing: it's so much more interesting when u tryin to make your own build, i just didn't like granedes playstyle, and never saw interesting merc build, except pal explosive shot build, so i decided to try stick with glacier shot + fragments, and it's kinda fun what u can cook in POE, so much ways to build/upgrade your own build, just play what u like, doesn't matter its offmeta or something. Saying it cuz i never played 1st PoE without build, and it was kinda sad, making your own way is much more interesting, especially in a new, such beautiful game like Poe 2, and it's no too many mechanics that u need to know like in first one, to make a build that can beat everything

I'm stuck between a rock and I hard place. I don't have the chaos orbs to buy what I need. And I'm not high enough level to farm chaos orbs or do maps! not to mention my gear completely sucks right now. I'm level 31 and it's getting harder and harder to kill monsters!

kind of a serious question but could be potentially a stupid question although why do you use two weapons? I am at level 52 in this build so i just put on the plasma blast and the amount of key bindings i would need for two consecutive bow shot slots is kinda stupid granted though i absolutely hate shooting the glacial bolts with the same button that i use to move around with so i just have my left mouse button as movement only so i can plan the shots and then with bosses i just use glacial bolt to freeze them, plasma blast to shock them, and then put down the fire wall and melt with the shockburst rounds. Idk I may just be overthinking it but ik for a fact im gonna need to do something to fix this in the future sadly lol
