with respect to trying things out, you can always just move the support gems from one skill to another and see where it fits best, so even if your initial idea turns out bad, you can still make use of the support

Just so people know, I'm reasonably sure that in hardcore, unlike before, it isn't perma death, you just lose the hardcore tag and transfer to softcore. I haven't 100% confirmed this, and will update later if wrong, but in the few interviews I've watched I heard that somewhere. All that to say, if you wanna try the challenge of hardcore, the only thing you have to lose is the accomplishment of beating bosses on hardcore. If you are truly new to the game, you should probably start softcore, but just understand that hardcore isn't nearly as punishing as hardcore in PoE1.

Im pretty sure that is only the case because we do not have a league currently, your character would just swap to standard league. Which atm is softcore

I am 99% sure this was in the Ziz x Jonathan interview yeah. You just get sent to softcore when you die. Keep in mind that your stash will not transfer with you so either play inventory only or just start in softcore.

They made it sound like your stash doesn't transfer but what you have on your character does, but a work around is to just make another hard core character with all your stash on him and then intentionally die to carry it over. BigDucks not startin strong on this one.

@@Valkirth It's the same that happens in PoE 1 as well, but there you go from league hardcore to standard (non-league) softcore. But in Path of Exile 1, you're then missing out on content specific to that league. There are no leagues with extra content and non-leagues without that content yet in early access, so you are not missing out on anything

How entrenched will a character be once you've spent points on passives and ascendency choices? Like will I have to create multiple characters if I want to try certain playstyles - I know respec will cost gold but will it be monetarily feasible to completely respec a character or will I inevitably have to have my first character be my test run and then create further characters to refine/try certain things?

Using the poe 1 gold respec for reference, it depends when you do it. Respecing becomes more expensive for every level you gain, but it still isn't an issue until around the level you start mapping. After that, it becomes expensive, however without a massive gold sink like Kingsmarch, it might not be that bad depending on how much you save vs spend gold.

For a new and unskilled player should I focus on one class’s tree or spread out? I’m having a tough time with bosses.

I would suggest staying in one area on the tree for sure. As for skills stick to suggested ones if you're struggling to decide. Bosses are mostly skill and damage checks early on. Try to slow down a bit and learn the boss moves.

For any new players out there. I would HIGHLY recommend waiting until GGG updates the game. Currently currency is far too rare(primarily things like regals and exalts), rare mobs and unique/bosses will only rarely drop rares, and the passive skill tree has very very few defensive nodes to help you out especially on the right side of tree. All of these things together, once you get towards the end of act 2, if you havent gotten lucky with god tier RNG, Youre probably going to be softlocked. I have a bunch of bases sitting in my stash waiting to be crafted on but i have only gotten a single exalted orb in 15 hours of in-game time. Let alone the regals needed to make them rare and getting lucky with the magic mods. The concept is good but it needs some tweaks to be comfortably playable, dare i say, accessible to new players which was a massive part of the marketing for poe2.

I was looking through the skill listed so far and I'm worried about Ranger. I swear there were 4 types of lighting arrow but now Ice shot can be consume freeze but not freeze itself........ And the only other ice skill was escape shot. It seems very limited for this diverse game.

Didn't they say Hardcore isn't perma death because this isn't a league. So you just go to Standard. Once leagues come around then it's "perma" since you get kicked to Standard. I suppose this is future proofish but more thing will change anyhow.

Gem sockets and links are no longer part of gear. I believe that the availability of support gem slots is tied to the tier of the skill gem but this is unconfirmed.
