I've been testing video camera apps on a new 16 pro and really like Kino for quick point and shoot stuff, but there's an annoying bug - in manual mode I'm finding it really tricky to tap the speed / angle selectors - 9 times out of 10 nothing happens. I checked this on an iphone 13 and it was the same, but is fine on an ipad (even though the UI is smaller than the screen). Anyone else noticing this? I've written to the developers and they say it's being investigated... Anyway, for more 'pro' work, I think I've settled on Cinema P3 - it's not the cheapest option if you want the full pro features and LUT support - both IAPs), but there's a whole lot of power under the hood, the GUI is nicely laid out (and customisable) and the results have been amazing...

why did you use the 14 pro max shiftcam case instead of the 15 pro max case you showed when you reviewed the shiftcam lenses? That's probably why the wide angle didn't perform well, or the telephoto.

The ShiftCam review was shot on the 14PM as that was the phone out at that time and the lenses worked well. The 15PM was later and that’s when the lenses started having some issues.

With my podcast it’s about how bad my city bus system and other public areas how bad they cater to people in wheelchairs like me and I also started something called para Cross like CrossFit training, but for people that are paraplegics and partial paraplegics and I want to use older GoPro cameras mixed together with my iPhone equipment. I want to know if I can do that? also, I would like to know how to make make my show or podcast on KZbin and TikTok. In other words does it cost money to be able to download one or two hours of the podcast or the show and how do I get the show or the podcast out to more people to see and does it cost more money? And one more thing I like how people get good base in their voice and a crisp high in the highs and zero echo and how do you edit the podcast using three different cameras for three different angles, close-up and wide angle and is there a way I can do it remote by Bluetooth for example can I click on something that will make a close-up shot while I’m doing something and then click it again and then go back to the normal shot. I’m sorry I have tons of questions but I’ve invested a lot of time and money on getting the cameras living on Disability now it’s time to get sound lighting and software
@iphoneographers2 күн бұрын
You can use any cameras you want if you plan on just editing them together later. Just make sure you’ve got the white balance set the same. Then in editing use multicam (like in FCP or similar apps) to switch between the shots. Or you could use the Final Cut Camera app and and FCP with it’s multi camera feature to use multiple phones while you shoot, and more or less switch the cameras as you go. You can upload your podcast to KZbin or Spotify for free. There are lots more tutorials out there on these different topics. Best of luck!

I LOVE your lens videos, I've watched almost all of them. My question is I"m highly considering springing for the extra money to get the Beastgrip 1.7 tele (with the beastgrip cage)--- just so I'm clear, with my iPhone Pro 14 Max I can use this beastgrip 1.7 on all three native iphone camera lenses and it will look good? These other company lens I've seen you review you pretty much have to use them on the 48mm main iphone lens only.
@iphoneographers2 күн бұрын
Yes indeed. By “three” native lenses I think you mean 24mm, 48mm and 77mm. It won’t work on the ultra wide. So it’s technically two lens mounts since the 48mm is virtual. And on the Beastcage you can mount the lens on both. Thanks for watching!

Blake, I’m interested in your thoughts of Final Cuts newest updates to A) the iPad interface, but maybe more so to B) the camera apps newest updates. Especially after this video you published about Kino and BMC apps. I wonder if the tier would be Final Cut more casual, the Kino, the BlackMagic?
@iphoneographers2 күн бұрын
Yeah I think that’s the order. Final Cut Camera and Kino are similar, and I like that you can now see a LUT in FCC and can record HEVC Log, but Kino I like the 180 degree shutter option. Then in FCC you have focus peaking with Log. So they’re kind of a toss up with BMD at the top. Have to say also Cinema P3 is doing some good things too. I haven’t used the latest FCP. I’m a Premiere Pro user, but I do have FCP and LumaFusion for occasional work.

Having a number of issues with Blackmagic on my iPhone 16 pro max, first when recording with the ultra wide 13 mm the recorded video jumps constantly making it totally unusable and secondly when I set the shutter to the 180 angle it constantly reverts to 360 and finally I find the image stabiliser less affective than the native phone app stabiliser. Any one else having these issues, I’d be interested to know and any suggestions would be welcome, thanks

On a Blackmagic forum other people and myself included, noticed this with the 13mm lens when the stabilizer is on but more importantly with the 120mm lens with stabilizer on also. Hopefully Blackmagic will fix this.

Kino is the professional app for the rest of us. The automation exposure, when combined with a VND gives you 180° control without getting lost in the weeds. Kino’s LUTs are top notch and can be baked in durning recording - but can also be applied to any clip in your Photos app regardless of which app they were recorded on. My only complaint about the Black Magic app is overwhelming amount of head’s up information that can distract the filmmaker from the job at hand - making beautiful images.
@nicholaseales4 күн бұрын
The Kino automotion exposure mode just sets the shutter angle to 180 by alowing for auto ISO, but when there's too much light it will let go of the shutter angle. The automotion exposure system combined with the locked exposure/wb on recording whilst keeping you informed with the green text is basically the perfect run and gun system and to be honest every camera app should mimic it.

It would be so dope if Blackmagic would put a mini version of the color page in the app! Like if you click on a video in the Media page. There should be an option to color grade the video! Copy & paste the edits and film look creator would be pretty cool to do on the phone lol I ask way too much.. but i think it will come eventually
@iphoneographers2 күн бұрын
Interestingly FiLMiC Pro used to have something very similar to that in earlier versions of their app, but they discontinued it. But could definitely come in handy.

The thing I love about Kino is the ability to pull my phone out and shoot LOG footage as if it was through the native camera app, not stressing about settings. Just point and shoot but without needing to opt for the massive HQ ProRes files. I use ProRes LT through Kino and I've found that it's more than enough for family and travel videos. Blackmagic will always be the better professional camera app for filmmaking, but Kino fills a gap for me that I've always wanted in a phone!

I rarely used the actual Movi app, however, to do some calibrations you did need it. But if you have FiLMiC Pro it connects to it. I found out using my Apogee Hypemic is not ideal for an audiobook, because it’s a usb mic. But I’m wondering if all I need to do is get the right microphone and an interface?
@iphoneographers13 күн бұрын
Technically you can record an audiobook with either a USB mic or an XLR mic, however, many nicer condenser mics are XLR and require phantom power. So yes, using an audio interface like a Scarlett works great. Just use a nice mic and record in a quiet room with no echo.

@iphoneographers14 күн бұрын
Yeah that’s a good idea, but using accessories like this is super easy and convenient and works great.
@Nata-ch2bk16 күн бұрын
I would guess that the main reason for this choice is that they are simply limit testing. They want to see if it can actually be done and produce a good result. The 15 Pro was a huge leap with Apple Log so it must have ignited that thought in many directors "could I shoot a high budget fillm with an iPhone?". And the only way to know for sure it to actually try it. They are trying to push the boundaries of professional film making. Other than this reason or an advertisement for Apple (but I doubt it's that), I don't see what else it could be. Definately not a budget issue of course, not a quality issue either because there is no way an iPhone can actually beat a real cinema camera.
