I've done the Chunnel on many occasions on Moto and Motorhome, through dog pet passport, and always simple and the most prompt and effective means of travel. Never use ferries.

You seem to forget that this is a hard international border. Thanks to Brexit, it will even get more difficult when ETIAS is in place. Also in Folkstone you can only enter the tunnel via an exit of the motorway. For some reason you turned around at the first roundabout instead of young straight on. It seems you entered the address of Euro tunnel offices in your sat nav because that's were you ended up.

You've got that Merlin mesh jacket same as me, I've yet to dare go touring in it. I was going to wear a heated vest and a lightweight down jacket under it with a waterproof to go over it but seems a faff , i'm sure i would appreciate it when it gets hot, it's mainly my arms that suffer when it gets chilly. How did you get on with it and how did you layer up, would be interested to know , i've tried so much crap to find the perfect touring jacket i doubt it even exists .
@MotoTripTV
@MotoTripTV 23 күн бұрын
The jacket was comfy to all day ride in, its made to let air flow and it does so you need a windproof over layer when in colder weather. I wore and under armour zipped top underneath when it got a little chilly and if it rained i wore an Oxford Rainseal over jacket which is windproof too. The combination did work, but as you say changing layers each time you stop is a faff. Ive since bought a Klim Carlsbad jacket and pants which is better for all year riding but you still need a fleece under it in cold weather. in hot weather the merlin jacket would be better as the air flow through the vents on the Klim is poor.

Years ago my wife and I rode a Kawasaki Z750L loaded with camping gear from Chesterfield, Derbyshire to Bala Lake at night in the pissing rain all the way there. We arrived at about 9pm to be told "no bikes allowed on here!". My wife was nearly in tears wondering what we could do. It was only when the owner realised we were a fairly respectable married couple that he let us pitch up. He put us right outside his office so he could 'keep his eye on us'. He said he'd had no end of trouble from 'bikers' getting drunk and revving their bikes. We walked into Bala and saw nothing but drunken students making the bikers look like nuns.

Another GS 1250 rider who can’t handle anything more serious that flat tarmac. That surface is nothing. Try sending it at 40mph down a cross country disused farm track on stock tyres. I’ve done it and have plenty of videos on instagram to prove it. I ride a Tiger 900 Rally Pro.

I know this isnt about Dorsoduro 750 and that bike is also a twin, but I got an offer and I am wondering if you would think it would work for 10-12 hours touring. 80% of my riding is twisties in the mountains of Norway. But I also do long touring to Sweden and down to Europe. I want something light and nibble but also kind of stable. Is the air protection bad?

It depends on the person, the more you ride the more you get comfortable on the bike. Most bikes are similar these days, i find standing on the pegs for a couple of minutes every couple of hours helps a lot.

Good honest video with lessons to be learned. Maybe not constantly chatting to someone while riding difficult roads would be a good idea? Way too much of your focus is inevitably on the person behind you, rather than completely on the challenges ahead.

We have been lucky ( me and sat nag on the back) to do over the years most what you done, but nice to see from another persons point of view !. You mentioned the battle of Anzio my Father was a Royal Navy Able seaman on the landing craft that put the British troops on the beach, he then went on to the D-Day landings in June that same year being in the first wave to hit Juno beach putting the Canadians on the beach. He told me Anzio was worse than D-Day in his experience. When I listened to you in the commonwealth cemetery you had me welling up also. He passed in 2017 aged 95 good innings considering !! So that you see them quicker. Nothing less, nothing more. At the end it only for lower your speed. It worked 😊as I have seen. Thanks for sharing the good work 🎉

Still catching up & I am glad to see you finally got some good weather. Just a shame about that camp site. Back in 1988 I decided to go to the Bol d' Or Paul Ricard with some mates . As it closer to Sept they all gradually bottled it , none of us had ever been abroad on our bikes before , so determined to go I set off on my own. Prior to leaving everyone told me I would have no trouble finding a camp site in France so that sounded great. Anyway cutting it short I got totally lost and every time I saw a sign for a camp site I would ride to it and find it closed. Yes there were plenty of camp sites but most of them weren't open in September so I really understand how you were both feeling. Cutting the story short I ended up camping in a public park for a night and when I got to the race circuit the toilets were as bad or even worse than what you had. Just for the record I too spent most of my time riding in the rain along with The Mistrel winds I heard never heard of before. But as they say what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Subsequent trips have been so much easier. Looking forward to catching up on your Scotland trip soon.

So much to learn on everyone's first bike trip abroad, the main thing is our expectation that the weather will always be sunny or dry. i took some things with me that i didn't use too which was a waste of time. Next time i will be better prepared, and places to sleep will be planned rather than turning up unannounced, at the very least make a phone call and book first thing in the morning, before travelling to somewhere that's closed 🙄

You got through safely which is the main thing, easy to lose concentration when your focus is diverted. Eurotunnel normally pretty good with bikes and let you take earlier crossing if space available.

Interesting seeing the P&O ferry, I have a return trip booked on the Stena Line from Harwich to Hook of Holland (basically Rotterdam). Cost £292 for single rider , bike and an outside cabin. Like a window to the outside so I can check the weather without having to go on deck. Came back from Europe on this ferry last year and the cabin was definitely bigger. Not bothering with food as I will get some once in Holland, get on board later as well so will eat in Harwich before sailing.
